The Shadowhawks are an Electronic Attack Squadron & are deployed on the Bush aircraft carrier in the Gulf.

There are 216 sailors assigned to the Shadowhawks -- 190 men and 26 women.  They received pillowcases when they arrived on the ship, so no need to worry about pillowcases for this adoption.

I received this sweet message from our POC:  “…it is so hot out here.  But it seems wrong to ask for anything.  Whatever you do will be received well by our Sailors.  And, thank you for what you are doing, not just for us, but for every Sailor life you are touching.”  He went on to say that our ideas for them would be far better than anything he could think of & he didn’t want to ask others for input as he wants this to be a huge & total surprise.

So, Moms we have our work cut out for us …  One thing I thought we should keep in mind is that they will be receiving their boxes right around  9/11 – the reason they are deployed & still fighting this war on terror that the other side started 10 years ago.  Let’s make certain that our sailors know:

                         “We Will Never Forget.”

Many will have sad memories of that day – NYC, DC & PA, let’s do our best to put a positive spin on things. I was thinking for a theme - “Picnic in Central Park”.  Central Park is a GREAT place for a picnic!

And, August is ‘National Picnic Month.’  In Central Park, people read, play ball, throw Frisbees, children blow bubbles & draw pictures with sidewalk chalk. There are artists painting & drawing, people writing or talking.  Of course, we can’t do anything about walking a dog (& pooper-scooping), but people jog, do yoga & catch some rays while playing in the fountains.  And, of course, eat!!!  (So we need food/snack items.)

Perhaps items can be red, white & blue to acknowledge American endurance on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Shipping will be August 22 – 27th.

These are just my thoughts.  So, let the discussions begin … !!!!

MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED THAT THE FEMALE SAILORS ARE BEING TAKEN ON.  If someone wants to help in some way, contact Lauren.

I'm working on getting water bottles from the iowa hawkeyes. I asked for little foam footballs too. I'll let you know what I hear from them. I have a friend whose brother is the head trainer, so I'm hopeful.
there is also a Shadow hawks comics. I"m contacting the company to see about getting some for our guys/gals

I didn't know that!  Wouldn't that be fun...

I have to google and see what kind of Shadowhawk items I can find.  But this time I will be very, very careful Molly & Diane...  No more repeats of last night's fiasco.

For the rest of you, this kind of reserved Molly momma was searching for water bottles, googled a word (won't say what in an open forum) but instead of water bottles ended up with a hard core porn site!!  Instead of seeing what I wanted, I ended up seeing full-front nudity with female & male genitals doing what they were designed to do!  So the "joke" (???) was on me.  I was horrified, my husband said he wondered what was taking me so long searching for an item for MAS!  :)

Oh my...  what a surprise that must have been!!  I can just picture you pulling the cords out of the computer trying to turn it off and get out of that site!!  I remember years ago my son coming home from school and telling me about the teacher looking up the white house on the internet and voila... there was a porn site...  she hit .com instead of .gov....  those porn sites lurk everywhere!!
LOL I remember trying to register for some Hollywood giveaway and typing in an extra L oh my .....lol

Asked our POC about squishy water balls - NO.  Same with water balloons & sidewalk chalk.  Nothing can be brought onto the deck for fear of causing problems with the aircraft.  Even washing off sidewalk chalk & water balloon pieces could get caught in something that would cause big problems.

I did ask if they had a place (gym or whatever) where they could toss around balls and frisbees.  Just waiting for an answer back on that.

Also asked him for some suggestions now that we have our theme.  He may want it a complete secret from everyone else, but HE wanted to know the theme!!  He's so cute.  He says to tell you all thank you for doing this and he is sorry for being -- "Mr. Negative."

Good to know what they can and can't have...  I bet they can have the little nerf type footballs and such...  I know my sons squadron (especially the officers) went crazy when I sent those sticky hands and whoopee cushions...  my son said they all became 3 yr olds!!
Well, the NCAA dictates what can be donated apparently, and all colleges have cut back on "stuff."  My friend and I are going to Iowa City and see what we can find in the Hawkeye stores though.  About five years ago several of us got about 1000 thermo mugs and a couple bowling balls and pins sent to a unit in Iraq, so this is just a bump in the road!
Good luck - go Navy Moms!
I'm checking at work to see if they can offer water bottles, explained they would be going to the troops. They might have my company's logo on them though. But they would be cheap. Haven't heard back but will let you know!
I love the idea of the plastic water fans.  Think I saw some at the Dollar Tree.  They usually have the peanut butter crackers too.

ha ha Ruth ---love the *bump in the road* attitude --- shoot moms dont take no and NO, we take it as maybe later :)

I do think water bottles are a good idea because that darn flight deck is hotter then billy be damned.

If we are not buying water bottles who cares whos logo is on it --we will take it !!  hey free is always good

HAPPY HAPPY THURSDAY everyone --- I will check on fb and see if anyone has a connection for water bottles also --heck you never know !!!
