My son leaves for GL on 8/8 and I am excited, proud, nervous, a bit sad and much more! Lots of emotions! He has been a DEPper since early November, so I should be ready... but not really!

He is in for 6 yrs because he is going to be a nuke. He says he wants to make a career of the Navy. Time wll tell.

I have 4 kids... a married son (lives close by), a daughter 22 (in college and moving out next month ~finally), my DEP son- 18, and my baby~ almost 15 yr old son.

With my daughter and my Navy boy leaving soon I am going to have a near empty nest, after YEARS of having a full, noisy house. I also hate autumn, so I am thinking I need to be VERY busy when that time comes. Life is about changes. I know that, but it sure is bittersweet to let your babies grow up!

So, how are you gals doing?

♥~Dale

We dropped our son off today at the recruiting office to go to San Antonio and fly out to Chicago tomorrow for BC. Strange day for all of us. I am really excited for him but a little worried and sad at the same time. He had to wait for one year, so he is ready to move on. So glad to have support trough this website and to get some very much needed information and insight.

Best wishes to all the moms, spouses and loved ones of our future sailors.

Thanks and I wish you and your family the same - I think the time right before they leave is the worst - I am already feeling a little better, he called us tonight from his hotel room and that was very nice, just to talk to him one more time.

Take care and enjoy the days until he leaves! ;))

Good luck for y'all and hope everything goes well... no delays like for my son (some paperwork had not been processed) so he had to wait another day, but he finally could fly out today.

Take care ZZsMom ;)

good luck to all.,time is flying ,,,..my son leaves aug 23.....im alil sad n yet proud ...this site is the best so far ...we will keep in touch....

Hello Everyone,

5 days until my son ships out.  I am soooo excited for him, but I'm  going through so many emotions.  He wants to hang out with all his friends before he leaves...but I'm like, "What about me??".  I know I'm going to cry, but it's a combo cry..happy for him starting his new life, but sad that he's leaving.  Again, thank you all for being there for me.  Let's all keep each other sane.

Jonna

I am with you.  Such an emotional week.  I know in my heart my daughter has made the best decision she can make in joining the Navy but Mommy just isn't really ready to let go yet.  Guess this is the best way...cold turkey!

Ladies~ I feel the same! With my son leaving for the hotel Sunday at 3:00 I am sort of in a trance. Really can't believe it is here. He shaved off his goatee and now he really looks like the 18 year old BOY he is! Oh, my! Thank GOD for this site! My friends are alll sweet, but keep comparing this to college... sigh. This is NOT like college!!!!!!!!!!

hugs to you sweet gals~Dale ♥

Thinking of you as your son's time approaches.

Dale, ZZsmom and all other moms that have sons/daughters leaving for BC this weekend or early next week know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you start this journey.  Remember you have us if you need anything!!  I know I will need you all the week of the 15th!!  HUGS TO YOU ALL AND YOUR SONS/DAUGHTERS OR LOVED ONES!!

I only have one more week and have emotions going all over the place!!!!  I am so PROUD of him and he is sooo excited and so ready to go, but I think this is one of the hardest things I have had to do as a mom.  Everyone compares it to going off to college and I get so frustrated because when your child goes off to college you can still call, text, skype, email, or all the other technology we know have or even just drop by when you can.  But we don't have any of those options for the first 8+ weeks.  We have good 'ole snail mail and hoping we don't miss the 3 phone calls he/she hopefully gets to make.  HUGS TO YOU ALL!!!

Susan

Susan, I am right there with you.  My son leaves that week as well.  Only 8 more days to be exact.  Not only is he leaving for boot, but he has also asked a wonderful young lady to marry him.  I am a train wreck of emotions.  they are planing a long engagement though and that is a good thing.  Sending prayers up for all service men and women and special prayers for all of us parents and loved ones with family starting their military career.

Wow!!!  Talk about adding all the emotions at once!  :)  My son will be gone a week from today.  I went to the Christian bookstore and I found a Sailor bible.  I started tearing up at the checkout counter.  The lady was nice enough and didn't comment, so I hurried to the car!

My heart goes out to all the parents, families, and friends of the men lost yesterday.  Praying for all of them and for all service men and women and their families.  God bless America...

Thinking of all of you. Emotions are all over the place and time seems to go so quickly. I am hoping we get a list of things,he is to bring. I have seen a few different lists. Does anyone know if they are to bring their soc sec card or just know the number? My son said he will find out at his meeting this next week.
Hope you are all hanging in there. Prayers and hugs to you all.
