My son is set to graduate on August 19th.  Ship 10 Division 265.  When does he officially know that he is going to graduate on time?  He writes a letter telling me that he has to do a 2+ mile run that he is concerned about.  But I don't know when that is.  And what is the time frame that they give to let you know if he is graduating on time?   I can't afford to buy refundable tickets.  And it is past time to buy. Help me!

It is my understanding that after they pass the 3rd PFA, they only lack battlestations. After they pass battlestations they are "officially " Sailors.

My son is in the same Division/Ship. Based on the information received, I am anticpating the "I am a Sailor call" on the 17th. I could not afford refundable tickets either. However, SW airlines will allow you to use the full cost of tickets on future travel, so you don't lose out. Also, you get to check 2 bags without charge. Go to their website and look at their "Wanna Get Away" fares!  I hope this helps!

Kathyann,

I received a similar letter yesterday from my son in 10/264. He is worried about passing the mile run as well.  We did exactley what what jma1216 says in her post. We bought tickets with Southwest and if you need to cancel the flights they will honor the ticketed fare for a futre travel date. All we can do is pray and encourage our SR's.

I followed advise and got SW Air tickets.  It will work out great!  Alec did great on his run!  Now I am not worried.   Thanks everyone.  I was worrying so much about it.  Now what to do with 2 cats for 5 days!

He will need to pass all of the fitness tests BEFORE he can do Battlestations. We have SR's in the same Ship/Div.  After he passes the fitness tests, he does Battlestations. If he is not ready to do Battlestations with the rest of the 265, he will get to go through with another Div. However, he won't be able to PIR until doing Battlestations. If he does not PIR with the 265, he goes directly to school afterwards.

This has been a worry of mine as well. I don't anticipate the "I am a Sailor" call until two or three days before PIR. We bought tickets on SW Airlines. They are not refundable, however 100% of the ticket price can be used toward future tickets within 12 months. I figured if I have to cancel, there is no way in Heck I am going to not see my Sailor within a year.

Hope this helps!

My SR Alec did great.  We got SW Air tickets and I am in less worry mode.  We have the hotel, and the rental.  Alec asked if we could take a young SR with us out to eat after grad.  He will be all alone.  His family won't be able to come up there for it.  I can't imagine not having family for such an occasion, but it is also a financial burden that so many can't afford.  We will enjoy having a temporary son!  Now we just need to fit 3 6ft. +men, 1 less that six foot man, and two women in a rental!! I bet we figure it out!!

Good News!  We have two dogs and an Amazon Parrot to get figured out. Looking for pet sitters amongst my teenage daughters friends. I think our SR is bringing someone out as well. Oh and remember, rental cars have nice, clean, empty Trunks!  If they crouch up, like they were in a ships birth, it may work out!  :)
Bahhahhhahhahhhahhhhhaaaaaa!!!!
Hi ladies, my son is in 10/265. He called last Tuesday and again on Saturday. It was absolutely amazing to talk to him. He told me he did great on the mile run. I knew from his recruiter that battlestations would be coming up. Jake had to go before I asked him exactly when and what battlestations are. His recruiter gave me this website to help with Tue transitions we're going through without him. Also, can anyone tell me where to buy blue candles? I know how that sounds, but I'm not sure if it's the color or the flame. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am in the same boat. I still haven't made travel plans. It looks like I'm going alone and very nervous about that. I think they will let us know the week of graduation if they won't be graduating. I need to know a good place to stay and am hoping I can get by without renting a car but not sure how that will work out.

We went ahead and got tickets through Southwest Airlines.  They do not charge to change the dates of the tickets.  The hotel and car rentals are easily changed.  Some of the hotels have shuttle service to and from graduation.  If you don't want to rent a car, check out bus schedules and fees.
Still can't print out passes!
