I am so happy to hear that DiverMom! Thank you for the information. I have only received one letter because of my SRs duties are keeping him busy and that's okay. That's why all of you are here to fill me in! I am happy they are doing better as a team than last week. Great words to send to your SR =) Thank you again!!
Had a very brief chat with my SR today.  He received a Jury Duty Summons and of course will not be able to attend.  I called over to RTC Public Affairs and they referred me to another area, very helpful!  He got a "Statement of Service" showing his effective date of service and his end of active obligated service date.  He was able to call us and fax the information to us.  I will be sending that to the county court house and the county tax assessment office.  Although it was a very formal conversation since it was about this matter & I could tell he was not at liberty to chat openly, I did ask what week/day he was on and he said week 4/day 1 and just 22 days left!  YAY!

My SR son is wants to be a rescue swimmer.  We've had a couple of letters (his girlfriend has received 11, which she is glad to share) so I was glad to read the information from everyone, like the wisdom teeth pulling, etc. My SR did say in his 2nd letter that the days were flying by, the food is good, and he's made some friends all of which I was glad to know.  A couple of nights ago our oldest son told us about a video on YouTube titled Battlestations 21 by CNN (about 5 min.), and Welcome to US Navy Boot Camp put out by USN (about 13 min). Both videos gave my husband and me more information which we needed.   We have our room reservations for PIR and are so excited to see the changes in our SR.

Karen, I just watched both of those the night before last!  They are good videos to watch and I am sure there is much more to it all, but for me, it put my mind at ease.  My newphew is set to go to BC in October.  He and my SR are also the best of friends.  I wondered outloud if my SR had seen these prior to his departure and was glad to learn from my nephew that they had watched them together...along with others and the "Surviving the Cut" show on the Discovery channel about the Air Force diver training.  At least he was more prepared for what he was facing than I was!  Can't wait for 21 days & PIR!

got a letter also from sr said they have a couple of exams coming up along with inspections if they do well they could get phone calls but they have to score higher than 4.8 is what he said. did not say when the calls would come though.

Well I just got a phone call That means that hey get Higher score . He didn't tell me about test or nothing , no scores, didn't ask him just told me that they gave them some calls I wonder if they are going to do Captain Cup and when? and what about Battleships. I do not ask a lot because my son is very reserve, he said mom i can't talk to much just wanted to say HI and I love you all.!!!!!
Hi I just got a call from my son I think they are calling. He sound a little stress told me  they have inspection and test, i told him to keep pushing 2 more weeks to go!!!. Glad to hear his voice today. he told me that they give them some time to call I think all the div is calling
Thanks for the warm welcome and information.  Without hearing info from SR other letters, I would not know about tooth extraction, or  upcoming exams and inspections. The letters from my SR are about great food, fast meals, even faster showers, staying awake during class & other stationary times, completing PT and work precisely as expected, then enduring the consequences with his usual wit and humor. BN (before the Navy) he was the family clown!  Twenty days!

The most important thing to remember about PIR is to be flexible and not make a lot of plans, they may not want to do much.  Enjoy your visits and travel safe!

PIR LAST MINUTE TIPS:
Make sure everyone has ID's (birth certs for kids without ID's)
Bring at least 2 copies of the gate/parking pass - whether you plan on taking a shuttle to PIR or not, you'll need it to return your sailor back to base in the evening.
Binoculars - trust me on this!
Tide Stick Pen and a lint brush
Tissue - self explanatory!
Camera - and charger (or film)
Cell phone - and charger
Umbrella-just in case
GPS, reservation numbers, maps you may have printed
Husband, kids, etc (easy to forget those!)
An open mind to how your weekend will transpire - remember, they will be tired, they will be hungry and they just want hugs!
Bring your Sailors cell, laptop, ipod and all chargers to use in the room to catch up and if they are G&G you can give pass them on.
A comfy pair of clothes for your sailor to relax in while in your motel room
A sweater or jacket - it gets cold in the PIR hall
Whatever cool ribbon or name tag you may have made for your Meet & Greet
If you have room in your bag…a towel for your Sailor to sit on if you do go out and sightsee.

Best advice: Have fun and whatever you do, do NOT bring your sailor back to the base late. No one will forgive you for a long, long time! (If someone is late, they lose liberty the next day - and their whole division loses a couple of hours!!! NOT COOL)

I really appreciate the advice! I thought about binoculars a month ago and totally spaced going to get them to borrow! Thank you for the reminder Ochaos!
I just got a phone call from my son, he said that battlestations is on the 29th.  He sounded really good, I didn't get a letter this week so the phone call was wonderful.
Just got a call too. They are calling Thanks for the info for Battlestations, my son is very reserve and does not give me dates or so, Did you know about Captain Cup. I am going to buy my blue candle to light it up since these 2 weeks they have inspections and lots of work that the only thing that my son told me. Can't wait till PIR.
