This Discussion is for loved ones of Recruits in Division 947. Your Recruits will be training together, so perhaps you would like to get to know each other on here.

Since your Recruit is in a performing division, you may also want to join the Group, 900's division sailors. There will be information on there that relates to your situation.

Besides playing an instrument or singing, there are also Recruits/Sailors who will do color guard, carry state flags, act as escorts, do rifle guard--lots of important jobs. They are usually involved in the PIR before theirs and sometimes in the one 2 weeks before their own as well.

Here is a site I found that explains about 900 Divisions.

I was really excited to see that my daughter was in Div 947! My husband and I had both been encouraging her to do it if asked. She plays saxophone and clarinet, has been in marching band for several years and last year was the Drum Major for her marching band. I am excited to go to PIR and watch our SRs do their thing!!!!!

A little bit about me and my daughter. I served in the Navy for 5 years, my rate was FC (firecontrolman) and my husband served for 14 years. He was also an FC. This is both of our's second marriage. We actually met in the Navy. We each had three kids and have combined our families into one huge crazy family! Our two oldest are actually only a month and a week apart in age and our son was also going to go in the Navy but reconsidered. Our daughter got into the NUKE program which I am very excited about for her. It was really hard to send her off but I know that she is doing the right thing and I am so proud of her. She has 4 younger siblings here that are doing ok for the most part. It seems to be hardest on her 9 yr old sister but I think that is because the teenagers have more going on to keep their minds occupied. I need to get my butt in gear and get stuff done around here but this last week has just taken it's toll on me!

I hope to get to know some of the other moms who's kids are in Division 947! So excited for October 7!!!!!
I am so excited too!  My daughter also left on 8/9 - I survived the first week!  :)  I am so excited that she got into this division, which she was really hoping she could do.  The recruiter told her it would just depend on if a 900 division was forming at the time she arrived.  I'm sure she is very excited to be able to participate in this.  Glad to find some moms with kids in the same group, it helps me feel a lot less alone!
Ah!  So excited to see these comments.  My son also left 8/9 - he was excited just to be moving in the direction he has wanted to go for quite some time.  Although only 18, he is confident this is the right choice for him.  I don't think either of us even knew what a 900 division was, or that they existed, but I am excited to see what he will be doing  A little additional challenge will be good for him.  He's my youngest, so hard to say good bye, but he just gave me his brilliant smile and said 'It's my time mom - I'll be just fine.'  Can't wait for PIR and to see him again - and hopefully some of you as well!

Very excited to see my son in a 900 division! I am thinking he won't have so much PT this way...at 5' 10" and 130 pounds, he can hardly afford to lose a lot of weight, so I am hoping this will help in that regard. He was in NJROTC for 4 years, and really enjoyed Drill meets. I think this means they get to leave RTC to perform some as well. It should make things more interesting, and maybe he'll get to see some of the sights around Chicago...

Sorry, even 900 divs don't get out of PT, they even have IT (intensive training) or as the SR's call them, beatings.  My son said at first his division was getting IT'd almost every other night but towards the end not so bad.  It's all in the process of breaking them down then rebuilding them back up.  Don't be dismayed at this though, while it is hard at the time, they become better men and women through this process.  I couldn't believe the change in my son at graduation and even when he was home on leave this summer.  My son will be the first to admist he was not even in really great shape and  he survived the PT and IT just fine.

I should add too that my son's div was named CNO Honor Division and only missed Hall of Fame Div by .3 so for every IT/PT they got, it made them better

Hi new friends. My son is also my youngest. His older brother lives at school about an hour away, so I have easy access to him. Having Aaron gone, the house sure is lonely. I know he made the right choice and I am extremely proud of him. His rate is SECF, so he will be going to Groton for sub school. We are from Central Florida and this winter is going to be a cold one for him. I hope he loves every minute of it! KathyM, I guess our boys will be spending a lot of time together over the next year. I hope we can meet up in Chicago. Best wishes to all of our SRs.
My future son-in-law is also in this group and is in the Nuke Program.  My son is in the Nuke program as well and is in Goose Creek, SC right now.  He starts power school this week.  So, once my daughter and her bf get married I will have both my kids on the same base...for awhile anyway.  You should all be very proud of your kids for being selected for a 900 Div.  From what I was told they are considered the "best of the best" and it is an honor to be a part of this division!  Hooyah for 947!!!!!
Hooyah indeed!
Bucksmom, your son and my daughter will be heading to SC together then! That is awesome! I am hoping to get to know the other moms on here since we are all going through the same thing! I am so proud of my daughter and I know that being a part of this division is going to be a very positive experience for her! She had told my husband that she just wanted to be a part of a regular division but I am so glad to see that she is in 947!!!!!!
Hi Ladies, I received my form letter from my daughter yesterday!  I was very excited to have even such a small connection to her.  I was hoping for another letter today, but no such luck.  She sounded good in her letter, definitely wants lots of mail and said she misses everyone "so so so so much"!  I think I've read those 4 lines a few dozen times now....
I know how you feel. They will be able to write at about the third week, from what I understand. I am hoping so, anyway. I am missing my boy like crazy. I have written him so many letters, he is going to think I am a lunatic! I can't wait to know that he has received my letters and can call me. I want to hear it in his voice that he is okay. I know he is, but you know how a mom worries. Anyway, I hope our time passes quickly. Best of luck to all.
