The Shadowhawks are an Electronic Attack Squadron & are deployed on the Bush aircraft carrier in the Gulf.

There are 216 sailors assigned to the Shadowhawks -- 190 men and 26 women.  They received pillowcases when they arrived on the ship, so no need to worry about pillowcases for this adoption.

I received this sweet message from our POC:  “…it is so hot out here.  But it seems wrong to ask for anything.  Whatever you do will be received well by our Sailors.  And, thank you for what you are doing, not just for us, but for every Sailor life you are touching.”  He went on to say that our ideas for them would be far better than anything he could think of & he didn’t want to ask others for input as he wants this to be a huge & total surprise.

So, Moms we have our work cut out for us …  One thing I thought we should keep in mind is that they will be receiving their boxes right around  9/11 – the reason they are deployed & still fighting this war on terror that the other side started 10 years ago.  Let’s make certain that our sailors know:

                         “We Will Never Forget.”

Many will have sad memories of that day – NYC, DC & PA, let’s do our best to put a positive spin on things. I was thinking for a theme - “Picnic in Central Park”.  Central Park is a GREAT place for a picnic!

And, August is ‘National Picnic Month.’  In Central Park, people read, play ball, throw Frisbees, children blow bubbles & draw pictures with sidewalk chalk. There are artists painting & drawing, people writing or talking.  Of course, we can’t do anything about walking a dog (& pooper-scooping), but people jog, do yoga & catch some rays while playing in the fountains.  And, of course, eat!!!  (So we need food/snack items.)

Perhaps items can be red, white & blue to acknowledge American endurance on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Shipping will be August 22 – 27th.

These are just my thoughts.  So, let the discussions begin … !!!!

MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED THAT THE FEMALE SAILORS ARE BEING TAKEN ON.  If someone wants to help in some way, contact Lauren.

I would love to find someone to take a pic of HIS face when he starts receiving boxes!!  Sounds like this adoption is coming at a great time.  Since my kids are out of school I don't think about it.  But, I can't imagine Daddys and Mommys missing out on the excitement of the first day of school OR worrying about new shoes and school supplies!

My secret wish ... I hope we ROCK this boat like we have for all the others.  Well, I guess we couldn't rock Djibouti since it is on land, and I don't suppose we would want to rock a sub, but you all know what I mean!!!

A little rocking never hurt anyone - rock on......

NYPG if it can happen to Guam ....maybe it can happen to Djibouti........keep paying our leaders...

OMG, I got so excited about this I forgot where to go to post it!

MY COMPANY JUST DONATED 225 PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES FOR THE SHADOWHAWKS!!!!!!!

I will be picking them up tomorrow ~~

woo-hoo!  These sailors are going to be so spoiled this month--as they deserve!  Now the others on the ship are going to be jealous!
Hurray!!!!  That is wonderful news.  Thank you Sue for working on that for the Shadowhawks.  They are gonna be so excited...

Sue that is Awesome....who so you work for ....we need to spend money with that company....

And like a good neighbor.........State Farm is there................

@NYPD  Target had little note books with Babar the Elephant on them ::hint:::  just in case ya wanna pick up a couple-they were in the dollar bins in front of the store.

ha ha ha what fun this is to read -------------- I have a feeling the Bush is going to come into the shadowhawks shop one at a time and ask WHO SENT YOU THESE THINGS ---------ha ha ha Mr poopie pants is gonna love it :)  ha ha ha

I really don't think he has a clue what is about to happen to HIM.  I've told him he needed to find a place to put boxes so he still has a place to work.  He finally couldn't stand to keep the secret a total secret and told his CO about it!  Boy, he is really close-mouthed isn't he?  The CO worked with him and now he has a place where he can store and lock the packages until he is ready to pass them out!

He is such a sweetheart to work with and he is so helpful.  Now I know how other moms of the month feel about their POCs!

I have seen the shops on one the Lincoln and there isn't that much room either. haha  He is going to need a hangar bay!
