The Shadowhawks are an Electronic Attack Squadron & are deployed on the Bush aircraft carrier in the Gulf.

There are 216 sailors assigned to the Shadowhawks -- 190 men and 26 women.  They received pillowcases when they arrived on the ship, so no need to worry about pillowcases for this adoption.

I received this sweet message from our POC:  “…it is so hot out here.  But it seems wrong to ask for anything.  Whatever you do will be received well by our Sailors.  And, thank you for what you are doing, not just for us, but for every Sailor life you are touching.”  He went on to say that our ideas for them would be far better than anything he could think of & he didn’t want to ask others for input as he wants this to be a huge & total surprise.

So, Moms we have our work cut out for us …  One thing I thought we should keep in mind is that they will be receiving their boxes right around  9/11 – the reason they are deployed & still fighting this war on terror that the other side started 10 years ago.  Let’s make certain that our sailors know:

                         “We Will Never Forget.”

Many will have sad memories of that day – NYC, DC & PA, let’s do our best to put a positive spin on things. I was thinking for a theme - “Picnic in Central Park”.  Central Park is a GREAT place for a picnic!

And, August is ‘National Picnic Month.’  In Central Park, people read, play ball, throw Frisbees, children blow bubbles & draw pictures with sidewalk chalk. There are artists painting & drawing, people writing or talking.  Of course, we can’t do anything about walking a dog (& pooper-scooping), but people jog, do yoga & catch some rays while playing in the fountains.  And, of course, eat!!!  (So we need food/snack items.)

Perhaps items can be red, white & blue to acknowledge American endurance on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.

Shipping will be August 22 – 27th.

These are just my thoughts.  So, let the discussions begin … !!!!

MESSAGE JUST RECEIVED THAT THE FEMALE SAILORS ARE BEING TAKEN ON.  If someone wants to help in some way, contact Lauren.

Oh, you should have said something.  Russ had to go into Boston this morning to met a client - could have saved you a trip.

Oh, you should have said something,  Russ had to go into Boston to met a client this morning.  Could have saved you a trip if you weren't up to it.

Got the boxes and a crazy pic, but I'm headed to bed.  Have a pounding headache and now numbness in my feet.  No time for this!!  Have an appt. w/neuro doc after the 2nd packing party.

You should see the sizes of the boxes!  I was going to ship them parcel post but the size of them will make it way more expensive so we will have to repack them.  Came to a total of 432 boxes of red, white and you sweet heart boxes.  I'll try to post a pic tomorrow before heading to Dee's.

Did enjoy the time with my hubby going into Boston.  Only problem was in the tunnels, my GPS wouldn't work.  It showed my car in Boston Harbor with a flashing question mark on the roof!!!  LOL

Also met a Navy Mom who works at NECCO.  Hoping she joins us here in MAS soon.

NYPD, That's so funny!! Question mark on your roof!!!!!
HAPPY PARTY DAY!!!  And, as you all have told me -- Don't forget to have FUN.  Can't wait to see some pics later today.

Have a wonderful party ladies -------- will be thinking of you while I dig in trashes for caps (yeah Im going capping today with haylie ) have not really been out to look all month. but my homeless friends are always there when i go to the store and they run to me with caps :)   so terribly sweet !!!

HUGS and LOVE

(sorry I have to laugh at Ruth right now, people donating this and that she has no clue whats about to happen tee hee hee hee )   God love ya Ruth ---here comes the onslaught of love !!!!

Oh, I'm aware of what's going to happen.  I just hadn't thought farther than getting the boxes packed and ready to ship, not the getting them picked up or to the PO somehow.  A Bush Navy mom found me just yesterday and lives in this area!  She picked up 75 more boxes and has 30 customs forms filled out except for the contents.  Now my husband has volunteered to help--not that he wouldn't have, but it's so much better when I wait and let him figure it out and volunteer on his own.  I came home this afternoon to donations piled on my front steps!  Now just to prove I'm not totally a novice, I'm going to post some pictures for you to enjoy.  (I know you aren't picking on me! LOL)

These are my granddaughters in 2007 with over 300 thermo mugs we collected to send to Iraq.  All together, we sent over 1000.

And at a 2008 packing party with the Marine Moms.

Love the pics!  Can't wait to hear about your party.

I'm going to let Dee share about the MA Moms packing party at her house today.  If she feels like I do she is crashing somewhere comfy.  Had a really good time.  Lots of laughter, packing, labeling and, of course, good food to go with the good fun.

@Dee, the rest is for you to share!!
