I wanted to start a group with others that have Nukes that are at the same stage of the program as my son.  Looking forward to many discussions!

I know they had their 1st exams...

please share any ideas you have for care packages or encuragements

My son is 1146A.  Haven't talked to him since classes started and am wondering how they are going.  Any info on what's happening there with the hurricane or school would be greatly appreciated.
their day seems to be 7 am - 4:30, and then study hall if you need it.  Going into Charleston on the weekends.  They had their first round of exams on Monday.  I think the large majority of them passed.  They never felt the earthquake.  Don't know if they have plans for the hurricane.  I got my first call Tuesday and was told all of this.  My son says it is mentally exhausting.  He is not used to having to be so focused for so long.  He said the HS math is easy, but they are already learning much more in the way of math.  You have to pick it up quickly or you fall behind

Hi Shannon and Dani,

My son is also 1146A.  I usually talk to him once a week along with an occasional text.  He said so far it is not so hard but they actually just started academic classes this past Monday. Previous week was all briefings. I was under the impression that they are having their first test this upcoming Monday. Initially, everyone has mandatory 2 hours of study time Sunday-Thursday. As they prove themselves, there hours of mandatory study will go up or down, depending on how they do on their tests.  I am so happy I found some other moms in the same class. It will be nice to have people to talk to that are on the same page of the book as me. Looking forward to a great couple years with you!

My son told me that there is an evacuation plan if needed.  They don't feel like it will com down to that. It looks like they will just get some wind and rains (nothing big....hopefully).  My mom, brother, niece and nephew are all suppose to be vacationing next week in Myrtle Beach and were going to visit my son on Sunday. They are now debating on canceling their trip. They don't want to spend a week there if the weather is going to be bad. Even if it is just rain.

Hi CindyLou & Dani,

I agree it's nice to have contact with people who's sailor's are at the same place in the program.  My sister-in-law lives 15 miles from the base so if your sons needs something immediately, she is available and I'm sure would help out since her son is a Marine reserve and she strongly supports our military.  I'm hoping to talk to my son today or tomorrow.  I'm nervous about the classes.  He is super smart but hasn't been in classes for over a year and he was concerned that his study skills might be rusty.

I am glad to see Irene is probably going to bypass them, but hope it misses the entire East Coast.

My son has been out of school for 4 years. I don't think we will need to worry about their study skills. The mandatory study hours or any studying for that matter, take place in the classroom. For security purposes, the material isn't allowed to leave the school. Students are assigned to take turns supervising the class to make sure they are studying and not getting loud.

My mom and brother decided not to cancel their vacation to S.C. after all and they are on their way. They left yesterday and should be arriving there this evening. I hope the weather is half way decent for them. I am so glad my son will have some family visiting.....even if it is not me.

Glad your son will have some family nearby to visit with...I'm sure they get homesick although they probably won't say so.
Talked to my son yesterday.  They were getting some rain and wind.  Class let out early due to power failure.  He has duty today in the rain and wind...ugh.  But they are all safe and sound as of then.   He did great on the first math quiz, but is having to study the tools, not being a car repair type lol.  He was so energized and up beat.  Talked a mile a minute for an hour telling stories and making me laugh.  I'm so proud of him!

My son didn't even mention the math quiz.  He did say it is easy so far, so I am sure he did good. I hope!  Remember their first test is tomorrow. Hopefully they do good on that as well.

About the talking a mile a minute, I felt that way at boot camp PIR. He talked and talked. Everything was so interesting. I felt like a kid at kindergarten story time, sitting on the edge of my chair hanging on every word. lol

me too...the interesting thing is that for the last several years my son has been pretty quiet and introverted.  It is such a joy to have him talking.  And you're right everything is very interesting.  They must be pleased with themselves thatthey have so much to say and everyone is so interested..a real ego booster.

Does anyone know the breakdown for he different Phases?
