WOW Proudmom, both your babies leaving so close to each other.  The great thing is they will be in together for a little bit.  I will definitely share my experience and any info that will help you when your daughter leaves.  It is a bitter sweet moment.  I am so proud of my son, but the thought of waking up each morning and not seeing him there, or not tucking him in bed anymore has me so sad.  I know it will get easier with time and when I watch how excited he is, it just makes me smile.  My biggest fear is that I will not understand how all this works and I will miss something or do it wrong.  I just want his experience to be as wonderful as it can be.  I am grateful to this website, it has helped so much and to see all of us mothers sticking together is truly priceless!!!:)
Funny you should say that your biggest fear is that you will not understand how all this works and think you will miss something. I have been thinking the same thing and almost obsessed with getting as much info as I can. My daughter thinks Im nuts sometimes.LOL I think with sending them both off so close together I want to know as much as possible as they are the two people I love most in the world. The thing I like most about this website is that I found out that a lot of moms have been having the same thoughts and concerns as I do. I sometimes think that the rest of my family doesnt get what Im going thru but its good to know that others do.

We are in Northern California, my son leaves Nov 1st too. Have you found out any info on PIR "Graduation" in December?  I wonder if they are going to rush through bc and let them PIR early because of the holidays?

My son's recruiter said they will probably have PIR at the end of December.  He said with the holidays there is a possibility that the recruits leaving Nov 1st will have a week off before they have to be at A school.  If this happens they have a choice to come home with us for the week and work with the recruiter or stay in Great Lakes until they go to A school.  He said they will give them this option at the end of bc if it is available.

Holly,

When I find myself being negative I like to tell myself that contentment is a skill that can be learned.  But you have to practice!  Sometimes it helps.  Other times not so much.  When I was in nursing school it helped quite a bit.  I'd remind myself that each class was 16 weeks long whether I loved it or hated it.... so I might as well find something to like about it.  Maybe while your daughter is a depper she can practice finding the good, or at least the funny, in whatever situation she's in.  Something like "I came all the way to Chicago for a bad haircut and shapeless clothes that look like they've been washed with about a million blue ballpoint pens!  Whose brilliant idea was that?  Oh, yeah.  Mine"  Kind of lame, I know.  Needless to say I wont be giving up my day job to do comedy.  But sometimes even stupid jokes are better than no jokes at all!  It's an idea anyway.

Have a GO FOR IT approach. If she doenst try the ONLY answer is no.Yes it is my understanding as well that the job has to be open to strike and she will probably have to test to she if she has an aptitude for it. My son was told that he will also get a chance at boot to talk to a someone about getting a rate (If he doesnt get one before). but that he will need to be a great recruit to get a consideration. He is going to use the GI bill while he is in and then out of the Navy so his approach is to just see what navy life is like and see the world.

UPDATE...

So what a difference a week and a new recruiter has made. My daughter is starting to make the transition from civilian world to Navy world. She attended her first meeting and is future leader seaman Jacobs. (I like the sound of that, lol) Her recruiter has been instructing her on the things she needs to do. She has started to study the speeches, words and such..even taking it with her. She is working on getting her crew of nine, ready for pt next week. Which she is actually nervous about. She is also starting to get more excited for her future life in the Navy. As for what she chooses to do, I only encourage her to go for it. She loves adventure and trying new things.  And traveling. (Which she got from her Airforce daddy always moving and taking family trips around the world :) ) Its strange how I suddenly saw the maturity emerge within a week or so. Her time left here is going to go so fast, that makes me sad, I am dreading saying goodby to her...I will miss her dearly. However, I am beginning to feel she is going to be ready for the transition, me on the other hand, not so much.

I already posted this but my daughter just told me this morning that she has 67 days to go. She is starting to train as well and looks like she will be ready. Im like you she will be ready but im not sure I will be. Im really really happy that things are working out for your daughter. She sound like she is going to make a great sailor. Which is great as we need all the great sailors we can get! Our recruiter gave my daughter a booklet with all the things that she has to know before she leaves as I guess he has to turn it in before she leaves so we are doing the same thing going thru and making sure she knows everything. Goodbyes are never easy but we must let them put on the wings and fly.

my son has been in DEP since the beginning of April...  54 days and counting....  I'm soooo excited for him....  I had a blast during my naval time.. and I know he will too

38 days to go....  my son has had several meeting with his chief outside of the regular DEP meetings. He goes back tonite for another.. finishing his PQS and going thru his contract making sure he has crossed his "t"s and dotted his "i"s . We are all super excited and really cant wait for PIR in well who knows when.. hopefully middle january

Do we think it will be middle January?   I was thinking more the beginning of January.    Middle sounds great because of the holiday travel congestion.   My son ships out on November 8th also, from California.

Kim

My Son leaves November 8th also.     After bootcampt he goes straight to Pensacola for 2 years of school.

He  actually leaves our house on November 7th, spends the night in Sacramento, Ca (we are in Red Bluff , Ca.).

I am beginning to really have a rough time with this.

Kim
