Hi everyone, my son left on 09/07...7 days ago today.  I haven't received the box yet, nor a form letter, just wondering if anyone else out there is waiting as well?  I figure we can give/offer support where needed.  This is going to be a long 8 weeks!

My son just left today and I'm already waiting on the box. Hang in there.
Mrs.B - My son is going to CT for both of his schools, a total of 41 weeks.  He is STS, Sonar Technician Submarine.  It's good to know that the barracks are nice.  Do you happen to know if your friend had to leave on Saturday after PIR or not?Someone told me that they think the SRs going to Submarine School have to do two weeks at GL after PIR before going to CT.

I am not sure about going to GL's A-school for a while before going to the Subs school. All of the Subs I know go directly to CT the next morning. Your SR will stay on the bootcamp side, Friday night and will leave by shuttle/bus for the airport early in the morning. (I think they're they're by 6 am, or so) and then their flight leaves soon after that.

If he does have to go to the GL's A-school for a couple of weeks, then it is possible he will get the weekend to be with you all, but I can't promise that.  I'd be surprised if he does have to go to GL's because they have to class up and it normally takes about 2 weeks to get in, unless they're lucky. But I honestly don't know.

My son arrived at GL on 9/7 and I received his box the following Monday 9/12 and got the form letter on Friday 9/16.  His PIR is also on 11/4.  His A school will  be in Charleston, SC for Nuclear Engineer training.  Does anyone know if he will be able to spend the weekend with us after graduation?  We live in the Chicago area and it would be nice if we could see him for a couple of days before he leaves.

Thanks for the info. Will your son be going to Charleston for his nuke training?  No I haven't joined the PIR 11/4 group yet.  I just signed up yesterday so I'm still trying to maneuver around the system.

Thanks Mrs.B, I hadn't heard anything about the staying in GL until I was at MEPS seeing my son's final swearing in.  Another mom said she thought they stayed in GL for two weeks after PIR.  I'm sure he will be ready to go to A school but I was hoping for a little more time with him besides just Friday.
My son shipped out 9/7. His PIR is 11/4 as well. I started to cry when recieving is box. I then opened it and went to smell his shirt to get that warm fuzzy missing my child feeling and I lost it. I started laughing....he managed to send me a box of dirty laundry after he moved out!! His shirt stunk from his shoes..lol. I think the sight of the box made me more emotional!!llol I spend about an hour a day on this site. Its my savior. Its nice to know Im not the over protective mom  that misses her son terribly. and its not ridiculous. Thanks :)
