It makes sense that they cannot take leave during the week while in school. Do they get liberty for holidays? If so how long do they usually get per holiday? Is it different for certain holidays?

We are planning on getting married while he is in A school but we will have to plan carefully either on a weekend or while he is on liberty for a holiday. Any advice would be great!

His PIR date is October 28, 2011 and He is going to the Nuke program in SC. We are not sure yet if he will have to go straight there after PIR or will be able to come home for a bit. I guess it depends on when the school starts.

I'm in Springfield, just north of Nashville.  Lived here all my life.  We used to go to Knoxville a couple of times each fall to scream in Neyland Stadium.
Thanks for the info :)

He will go right to South Carolina after PIR.  He will be either grad and go or have the weekend but need to return to base each night.  They get the four day weekend for Thanksgiving and then two weeks at Christmas time.  THis is if he is in A school.  If he is on T-track which is the hold time between A school and Power School he may have an abbreviated leave.

Thanks you. Is abbreviated leave held at the school or would he possibly get to come home if the class hasnt started yet? 4 days forsure at thanksgiving?
Hey amwest! I am glad you asked this question because that is what I came here to ask. My son PIR's the 28th also - what div is your fiance in? Also if you didn't know, there is a group on here just for everyone with the same PIR date.

From what I understand the term "Grad and Go" is no longer used and everyone leaving GL for A school leaves on Saturday (in most cases, I saw this on the US Navy RTC Facebook page).

So does anyone know if for the Christmas vacation there is a certain mile radius they have to stay in? Really hoping he gets to come home for Christmas. That would be the only present I would need!!
Hello TN Mom's.....where are ya'll from in TN?  My son started A-school in Charleston on Monday, Oct. 3rd.  I live about 15 miles north of Knoxville, TN.  Do any of you belong to a local Mom's group?
I don't know about TN Mom, but I"m from Knoxville - the Farragut area. My son started A school in Charleston on 9/12. I don't belong to a local group.

Hello hstolz, nice to meet you here.  I live about 2 miles off of Norris Lake.  So, how does your son like A-school?  I haven't spoken to my son since Sunday and he started school on Monday....I can't wait to get an update from him.....It seems like such a hard school.  Does your son like being in Charleston?

He's only seen a little of Charleston since he can't drive his car until this coming weekend and he has spent the vast majority of his time in class (7-4, M-F) or studying (15 additional hours/week). But he likes it there are is doing well. My husband is driving down on Saturday to deliver his car and take the bus back. We already visited once - it's lovely there! **heidi
