Hey Nov 8th moms. 35 day to go and counting. My daughter goes this friday for her 30 day review with her recruiter and then meets every week now till she goes. Since meps is in phoenix (and we live here)we will be able to drive her to the recruiter the morning of and say goodbye. Wow it sure is coming fast now!
Too fast huh.30 day mtg Friday here too.

Yes the day is fast approaching....My daughter has allready "undid" her room..she took packed things into dishtubs and took everything off the walls...We will be putting most of it into storage until she comes back to get it or sends for it. Her recruiter said she might have a chance to go to spain. She is hoping for that, but regardless excited for whatever outcome. However, as the days have approached the 30 mark, she is starting to get a bit nervous...and wow! me too! I keep thinking I cant let a hug pass me by or those special moments between mom and daughter wont be around much longer...I am sad and proud and happy for her all at the same time.

Hey Nov 8 moms. 30day out mtg for my son is Friday. It's gonna be a busy busy month full of activities for my future sailor along with his 21st bday a week before he ships out. We have to take him to his recruiter on the 7th and he will be at meps on the 8th. I plan on not working that week for I WILL BE CRYING ALOT.

What are some of the things your doing to make sure all loose ends are tied up before they ship on Nov. 8th?

I am having my son get his room cleaned up enough so that I know what he wants me to send to him when he gets to Pensacola after BC.  He is giving some of his stuff to his friends, we know that he will be gone at least 2 years in school. Currently, I live in an apartment so it is likely I will have moved prior to him coming back home.  Should I plan on sending all his clothes to Pensacola or is it just easier for them to buy new stuff?

Any ideas of what you are doing to prepare would be great so I don't forget anything.   I really am not looking forward to this very much...he is spending alot of time with all his friends now.   They are going camping this weekend, I am a bit nervous but trying to understand that he won't see them for a few years.      Lord, give me strength.

Kim

We did the cleaning out the room this weekend and packed everything unless she is going to use it this month. There is actually a floor in her room now (LOL) and it is clean and neat. I was proud of my daughter because she really didnt keep a whole lot of stuff and a lot of nice things are going to charity that Im sure someone will appreciate. I am already seeing the transformation in her and not holding on to too much which is great because that tells me she is looking to the furture.
Ok we are at 28 days and STILL hasn't touched his room..UGH . But I think deep down if he doesn't ,it won't seem real to me. Planning the sendoff party now.

We have begun to pack his room.    He will be in Pensacola for the next two years in school so we know that he won't be spending any great amount of time home very soon.     In school do they have roommates or do they all just sleep in barricks like boot camp?

I have been struggling with November 7th and when he actually leaves Red Bluff to Sacramento.     I was planning on going to meet him in Sacramento for the night at the hotel until they leave on November 8th.      After much consideration and talking to my son, he is thinking it MIGHT be easier to say Goodbye at home and not at MEPS.   I still don't know what to do?    Sacramento is about 2 hours from us.   Is everyone else going with the child on Nov 7th/8th?

Snickerdoodlemom...I would talk to your son and see if he would be okay with you being there for MEPS.  They do the official swearing in and I think you would enjoy seeing that.  I think down the road he will be grateful to have the pictures and the memory of that day.  I think proudmom's suggestion of not hanging out with him the night before and then meet him for MEPS is a great compromise.
snickers...  every A school is different.. I went thru A school in Memphis. and it was like Barracks rooms actually just like College dorms..  a few to a room...  when i went thru school in Jax.. they were more like suites, had a common living room with room that branched off and had a couple ppl per room.  I spent some time in Pensacola and they had regular barracks .. but that was in the early 90's... I know things change... once our kids get to school they will let us know what is up and how much freedom they get and when they get it.. I shipped out of MEPS in Oakland and lived in San Jose... my chief came to my door to get me and drove me there.. said goodbye to my family then ( it was 0430)  We have to take our son to another town to meet up with his chief on the 7th. then they will go up to Louisville, KY to the hotel... then MEPS in Louisville in the morning of the 8th.  wonder if our kids will be in the same division for boot...
Snickers Im thinking that other recruits might be a the hotel the night before and maybe why he is hesitant to have you there. I know my daughter would not want me at the hotel but she really wants me at MEPS and swearing in.  How about a compromise maybe not hang out with him the night before but show up for the swearing in the next day  I hear it is neat to see. Sound like your baby is getting excited and ready to spread his wings I know mine is.

Barbydahlzz,

My son leaves Red Bluff, Ca (our town) on Nov. 7th about 1:30 in the afternoon.    The chief/recruiter (I don't know) will then drive him to Sacramento to the Doubletree Hotel where MEPS is.   This is also where he had gone for his first physical so he has spent the night there prior.    November 8th it sounds like they get up extremely early and start their day.   At some point they are taken to the Sacramento Airport to leave for Great Lakes.      I am really thinking it will be better for everyone if we say goodbye at home.  I would love to see his swearing in but like my son said  "Mom, they do it in a back room".      I will be fun to see which of our kids end up together in BC.      We will be at PIR in January...dreading the weather at that time......GOD...airline tickets are going to be horrible at that time.   My parents are taking the train..I just don't have that kind of time.    I will need to fly into the closest airport to Great Lakes where PIR is...what airport is that?

Snickers / Kim
