While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I was told they couldn't take more than 10$ cash. My daughter kept her debit card but they sent back the wallet. She hasn't made any transactions yet. I also heard they would only go to the store twice while in bootcamp. She left Oct 6.

My son took $25 and then MEPS have him a check for $23 for food. He didn't send back his wallet or money. I was a little surprised.

I have no idea. My son told me before he left that anything they needed to pay for would come directly out of his paycheck. He only took $20-$25 with him and has not said anything about needing more money. Maybe call his recruiter and ask him/her??

Sorry, my son's PIR is 10-28 so he has already gotten his uniforms and any other clothing they would need to get. He said even anything like shampoo, shaving cream, etc. is paid for out of his paycheck.

I called the recruiter, he said there is no reason he needs checks, now I'm worried.

We were told to send a voided check. A month before our son left we opened a checking account up for him at the Navy Federal Credit Union. Along with the voided check on that account we sent his direct deposit paper so his checks would be put in that account. I have access to his NFCU account and I looked at it yesterday online and his regular checking has now been called Active Duty Checking and it looks like he has a NFCU credit card with a $500 limit ($0 balance). I assume it is to use at the NEX and then payment will come out of his check.

No, I have not sent any checks to him, in his letters he said send by week 5. I've written him twice, asking why he's asking me to send him checks, no response yet. He went with $50, and a debit card. He took me off his bank account so I'm unable to look at it.

The process now is for the recruit to pay for the photo package, Keel, and DVD either with a debit/credit card or a check when they pick them up a few days before PIR OR parents and Sailors can go in and pay for them and pick them up on PIR day. It is possible that he is wanting the checks for that, but he would only need one for that. If he is wanting to purchase other things from the NEX that are more than the amount that was put on his card, then that would account for it as well, but if he has his debit card, he can use that.

I think its good to ask the questions you are asking and I'd be skeptical. I think some moms who have been in this for a while could tell us some stories.. There may be misinformation out there, even people taking advantage of our situaiton on both ends-recruit and parent. I told my recruit to be very careful about people misrepresenting themselves in the months ahead selling stuff, financial products, scams...I don't think that should be as much a problem at a training center than at a base. But then again a son or daughter can get an idea in their head that something is needed or is going to help them-they're inexperienced and they think they have to act on something they heard.
