Hi leilla,

Nice to meet you, my son also is ship 09 div 024, just got our letter yesterday too. It has been a long 9 days...

Margie
yes, waiting for that letter made the time pass so slow! I was surprised and disappointed to see that their graduation date is the 29th; really expected it to be the 16th. Thanksgiving and Christmas are not going to be the same without him home.
I agree, we are not looking forward to the holidays. We too were hoping for the 16th, but I am staying positive that this is for the best. I made my reservations for the hotel, hoding out for the flight a little longer.
I may make my hotel reservations tomorrow (Ramada Inn--they have a meet and greet there and offer a free shuttle to the base); I'll be flying from Charlotte into O'Hare and taking a shuttle to the hotel. I was considering renting a car but changed my mind after reading about the weather there.
Hello ladies, we have two post's for this group but the more the better right? My son is in this group to. Missing him more and more each day. We are debating on flying or driving, I know how are weather in NJ is and Chicago can be worse, I don't trust the airlines to stay open, I feel more in control if we drive but the downside is it is 15 hrs. I likehave the countdown clock gets me closer each second.
Just booked at the Residence Inn wanted a suite just in case he can stay with us the weekend. They had the best rates, and no cancellation fee's if something happens. I guess this trip is my Christmas gift this year, best one ever!!!!

Hi Michelle, I moved to NC from CT so I too am familiar with heavy snowfalls, but, that was 23 years ago!!! As far as driving vs flying; you sound like my daughter, she is considering driving (or having her husband drive) just in case the airlines shut down.

Sharing that countdown clock with you!

I don't think driving is an option for unfortunetly, from california, hopefully all will be okay...leaving early...we booked the Ramada inn,
Hi Margie, maybe we'll see you at the Ramada Inn. I'll be flying in alone unless my other son can save up enough to come too. I'd love for that to happen, he and his brother are close (fraternal twins).
That would be nice to meet you and hopefully your son can make it. I am really excited about the PIR, so proud of our kids..

Ladies just found this info. on Holiday Leave for recruits graduating 12/29 Looks like they don't have to report back until 1-8-12. Look for Holiday leave under groups there is a letter from the command.

I read this too! I'd love for my son to come home for a few days, but, I don't expect that he's going to. He mentioned before leaving for BC that his recruiter advised them not to leave cuz it's so hard going back. Maybe he'll surprise me and have a change of heart!
