Our letter came in yesterday! Glad to hear from our SR, but was a little disappointed to learn he wasn't on the Dec 16th PIR schedule. We received "the box" last week, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would of been. I think following the day by day boot camp activities has helped me deal with him leaving. I read it everyday 3-4 times, I guess you can say its therapeutic.

Hi there...my son is also Ship 09, Div 023. Nice to meet others that will PIR on 12/29/2011. I haven't receieved the form letter yet but we did get the"box" last Friday. I can't wait to see if they qualify for adopt a sailor for Christmas! Is this an all male or an integrated div?

My SR is male, so I do not know.
I read that our son's div will not qualify for adopt a sailor Thanksgiving or Christmas...oh well. Just wait, pray, and soon it will be Dec. 29! We got his form letter today and it had a nice little note on it. It made my day.
Training Support Center (TSC) Great Lakes ; The December holiday stand-down instruction has been signed and distributed. The Training Support Center, Great Lakes (TSC-GL) holiday period which begins on 16 December 2011 and ends on 2 January 2012. In accordance with the instruction, the student workday on 16 December will be from 0400-0600. Although the student leave period will commence at 0600, no flights should be arraigned prior to 1000. The holiday leave period will terminate at 2100, 2 January 2012 for students. Students arriving on or after the 16th can submit a leave request when the check into their barracks. All students must have sufficient leave available to them, but the command will consider applications up to 5 days "in the hole". Students with further questions should contact their NMTI. Have a great day! Our sons would have earned 2.5 days per month of boot camp. So they would end boot camp with 5 days of leave available.

Hi there...First of all, I'm glad I found this group because I am learning a lot already! But, I guess I am kind of confused about what happens after our guys graduate. Do they have the option of leave after the 29th? I was under the impression that my son would likely be flying to school the next day. Do you know? You seem to be much better informed than I am! Thank you for your help in advance!

Hello! Finally received my form letter- after getting the wrong division from his recruiter I now know he is in Div 023. SO hi and hope everyone is doing okay.  Will chat more in the AM.

Has anyone started booking rooms, cars, etc...?  Just wondering what y'all are finding and where. Trying to find places with suites or at least adjoing rooms. You find them and they have DOUBLE BEDS! Really??? My husband is 6'2+" doubles don't work. My son's fiance will be with us plus our oldest son- so really don't want to have one room. Some places have suites, but not split bedroom- big room with beds together and couch( some with hidabeds) all in close proximity. UGH!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday!  Be strong! Just think this is the first year since you were young that you have started counting down the days 'til Christmas and been excited cause you know that just a few days later you will get to see your son/daughter! hahahahaha

Love the humor...we all can use some! My concern with booking rooms is I am unsure how many days to reserve. I read that people graduating on 12/29 are eligible to apply for leave. If our son wants leave instead of liberty...it is possible we will only need a room for the night before PIR. So, we are booking a room for that day and waiting to hear from our son about the rest. What do you all think??

Our son is also Ship 09 and Div 023 and I am also hoping that our son has put in for leave vs liberty.  I am going to book for the 28th and 29th of December for now and will make necessary changes after we speak with our recruit.

We booked at the Residence Inn like you my boys and husband all are over 6'4 and thought the same with needing alot of room we have a suite with 2 bathrooms and a pull out sofa. With the PIR discount which they will give you if you ask it came to $159.00 a night. you may find that you will need 2 rooms one for the girlfriend. Good luck

Very uneventfuI weekend. That is just what I like. I am wondering if this is a co-ed Div or not. Also- last year when we went to my oldest son's Graduation from Marine BC each Platoon (division) had a different color that signified them and we wore that color shirt with our son's name and platoon just thinking that somehow we could do something that identified each family with their Div. I see from previous years that the moms wore red scarfs. I know that it is gonna be VERY cold. Wondering if we should/could get a little something that would identify us- plus that way we can put names & faces together on the 29th. I like the idea of the scarfs, but anything is fine. Any other thoughts from others????

Our son is ship 09 and div 023.  I booked a room at the Navy Lodge.  We rec'd our form letter last week.  His comments were not real positive and  it did leave us a little emotional.  But I hear that is very normal.  I am sure he will adjust and all will be good after boot  camp he just has to survive this.  I think the idea of wearing something to signify the division is a great idea.
