Moms - So glad I found this site.  I have read through your posts and it helped a ton, but this is all so new to me. My family has a military history; husband, dad and brother, but they all went enlisted. I have told my children I would love for them to serve, but only as an Officer.  Now it seems my daughter wants to pursue ROTC and my son is right behind her.

But I need some of your expertise please.  Background - my daughter is in her sophomore year at junior college. She will graduate with a Marine Science degree.  It is her intention to transfer to Univ. of Tampa and pursue Environmental Science, with a minor in Marine Science. UT does not have NROTC, only AROTC.  She believe, through her research, that she could detach to the USF NROTC.

Ok, here's my questions:

-Can a student who already has two years college be accepted into NROTC?

-Would she kill herself with the time commitment going between UT and USF to meet her responsiblities at NROTC?

-Is she too late in the year to even apply for Fall, 2012?

-Is her degree pursuit even something the NROTC would consider?  I see a lot of engineering degrees being pursued?

-Who should she talk to about next steps?  I suggested her school advisor as a first step, though maybe they could put her in contact with the right person.

I appreciate any direction you can provide.  My son is hoping for AFROTC in his future.  He's a HS junior, so I hope this knowledge will carry forward with his goals.

Happy Veterans Day to all!

Wish i could help you, but i know any real answers.

My only comment [besides -- good luck w/ it all!!] is i think she should contact the USF NROTC Unit & talk to the recruiter there.  Perhaps her path at this point would be to complete school [get her degree] & then apply to Navy officer school, or whatever it's called?!?

Thank you for the replies.  I did find the number for the USF recruiter, I appreciate the direction.  From what I can tell, she has too many credits for the program, but a phone conversation will confirm.  I'm sure OCS will be an option, I think she was hoping to find a way to help with tuition now.  She got through the first two years with scholarships, I'm sure we'll come up with something.  Ok, off to hem pants for son's NJROTC uniform for next weekend drill competition at Tulane!  Go Navy!

The last I heard, they are now only offering scholarships for engineering degrees.  Things change from year to year but they have so many applying because it is harder to get school loans now that they can be even pickier than before.  I don't know if they give out scholarships to anyone who has already completed some college.  Hope that recruiter can help you.
