OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Questions about holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas
My son's PIR is November 10th, so he will only be in Goose Creek for a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. If we were to visit him for Thanksgiving, how much time could he spend with us?
Also, what happens at Christmastime?
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers. I'm trying to make plans to see him as much as possible, especially on holidays, and we have a pretty big family (he's one of 5 kids) to cart around and plan for.

My son will graduate A school November 18th. Today he found out what his Christmas leave (7 days) will be. Will he also get a leave after A school? Maybe someone had a Sailor that graduated A school around the same time last year that could give me some input.

My son graduates A School on Dec. 2, 2011. He originally thought he would get leave from Dec. 16th to Jan. 3rd but then was told Dec. 27th to Jan. 3rd. That sounds like the one week granted during holiday stand down. My son is under the impression that if he wants more time he must request a chit for extra days leave. He said that he doesn't know anything about the 10 days leave they are supposed to get after A School graduation. Do any of you know how that works and if any or all of those 10 days can be used in conjunction with holiday leave? Just trying to eek out as much time as possible because it will take one whole day each way to travel between SC and Los Angeles. :( Thanks for any wisdom you can share about this!

My son graduates Dec 2nd too. He said he gets Dec 21st to Dec 28th off but not the 10 days leave. Not sure about the extra days but it didn't sound like they would be allowed to add it on to vacation because they start their T track where they work one day, do watch one day and then have one day off. If they were still in school they would get the whole time off from Dec 20 to Jan 3 but since they aren't they are out of luck. That's the info I got from my end --- don't know if that is correct.

I just booked a trip for the week of Thanksgiving. I'm going! It was cheaper to book a week than to try to fly on the really busy days around Thanksgiving (Wednesday and Sunday). I can't wait to spend some time with my kid!

So happy to find you all here! My son will PIR 11/23 so will only be at GC for a month before Christmas. In a letter yesterday, he said they were told it would be "foolish and irresponsible" to request leave for Christmas so we should plan to go to SC for the holiday. If the school is closed for a week or so, they still aren't allowed leave? Just trying to understand!

My son graduated A school on 9/29 and finally got his 10 day leave on 10/29 thru 11/8. He will also get Christmas holiday of 12/20 thru 1/3... all the flights were already booked up, so he will be driving home to Texas from GC. I am not happy about loosing 4 days with him, so I am hoping to find another Sailor to drive with him. Wish that Southwest had more flights!

Wendy and emily my son said he classes up monday. I am also from ohio about 50 miles from columbus. W e arent trying any thing for Thanksgiving with him it just isnt enough time . I would rather wait for Christmas. I was playing around oo
cn priceline looks like to get back to Ohio may cost around 350.00 eround trip with lay overs in NC,PA.WA before getting to columbus. -

I was told my son is not going to take the Christmas off because he was not among the lucky group who was able to leave before Christmas. He has Dec 27 to Jan 3 and mind you he will leave late Dec 27 and I think has to be back early Jan 3 5 am?? must be a joke??? it takes half a day travel time and back if you are going to the west coast. so in short he only has like a few days and the plane ticket is around $600. r/t this time of the year ..that's like $100 a day. This is what I pay to take a cruise. Can these people give these kids a break from these demanding career or take them prisoner???

Praise I feel the same way. My son gets to come home for Christmas but only for a few days. He gets home on Dec. 21st but has to fly back on Dec. 26th to make sure he's back by 5 am on Dec. 27th. I guess I'll have to be thankful for that because someday he's going to be out to sea and then we won't see him for a long time.
