so scared, she's my only child, she's so small 103 lbs, my main concern is for her safety...she'll get a long well with others, she's very sweet but being she's so tiny I worry about the physical training aspects of boot camp. Anyone else swearing in on 11/8/11 in Harrisburg, PA?
Add me to ur friends if so, thanks! ShereeK45

Hey there. She will so just fine. Where's she goin to A school at?, my son swears on the 7th and reports in on the 8th. Coming from Louisville KY. After boot he's off to san diego for sonar school . How r u holding up? I'm a mess
Hey there, ShereeK45!  Well, my son (who also leaves Nov 8th) could probably bench press your daughter.  But that doesn't mean she's frail!  Have you ever watched those Olympic gymnasts or skaters?  98 pounds of pure muscle and determination!  We already know your daughter is determined and courageous, after all, she's joining the Navy!  She will do great.  But I do know how you feel.  My future sailor is my only child as well.  And though he's twice your daughter's size I still have plenty to fret about.  In fact that's one of the things that worries me.  He has the attitude that he doesn't have to pay attention to his surroundings because "No one is going to mess with someone my size."  He doesn't realize that there are people who will mess with him just because he is big and they think it will prove they're tough.  Also, he's just a gentle giant.  He's never been around physically aggressive people.  Moms will always find something to worry about, I guess!
My son is leaving from Oklahoma on November 10th.  I know it is difficult when a child decides to embark on this journey.  I know it is so hard, but try no to worry so much.  You want her to know you love her, believe in her, and support her.  Try and do what all us parents are so good at...keep the worry to yourself.  This is a great support system so take full advantage of N4M.
Hi ShereeK45...my son's ship date is Nov 1st, so we are taking him to MEPS tomorrow and then we will be there for his swearing in and meet at the airport until he leaves.  It has been a rough week as we had him in the ER a week ago with a severe case of poison ivy.  They put him on prednisone and domeboro patches to help heal it.  The poison ivy has done great and looks so much better.  Now it just looks like he burned his ankle on something, but it is better. However, as of yesterday he has gotten an allergic reaction to the prednisone and so he is now on benadryl to counteract that as we are weaning him off the prednisone.  I am a mess sending him to boot camp knowing he is not in full capacity.  I am used to taking care of him and it is hard to think I have to send him away like this.  Of course at the same time I hope they don't delay him, it would devastate him.  The recruiters said he will be fine, but we will see when he gets down there.  I guess as hard as it is to let them go we just have to trust in God and put them in his hands. I always say I wish we could just wrap them in bubble wrap and keep them home forever!:)  Good luck with your daughter and I believe she will be just fine.  By the way, my name is Sharee and when I saw your name it was close to mine...just thought I would share.

Hi, my daughter shipped on 11-08-11. She isn't very big either and I also have concerns about safety being her short small stature.

My daughter left that day as well... and she's not very big either. It's soo comforting to know there are SOOO many moms out there in the exact same boat. It's funny the journey our children take us - it all starts out by them needing us somewhere down the line the roles reverse and we're the ones needing them... she'll be okay. We have to have faith. Good thing about all of this is that we're also meeting new friends from different parts of the country (which for me is soo cool cause I'm from chicago) ;-)

Well I have never been to Chicago, and am a little nervous about getting around there for PIR. I have been googling things to do with my daughter on her weekend if she doesn't ship out right away.Something that is accessible by train I think cause I don't want a rental and try and drive. She was told she is going to Pensacola,Florida for A school. Yes this site is very helpful for info and support. Today I believe she sends the letter home with her info and address :) I still have not got her "box".

Hello Shereek45, my daughter too left that day and she too is my only daughter and she too is rather on the petite side so we now have three major things in common! How are you holding up? I know it's not easy. I've cried every single day since she's left and every waking moment I'm wondering what she's doing? I find myself wishing there was a machine where I can fast forward time (lol) - I'm sure it gets better but i'm also sure it doesn't get "much more better" than this cause we're always going to worry about our girls. Have faith, stay strong and God bless... you're not alone.
