HELP!! My son left for BC on the 9th

Hello fellow Moms (family)

 

My son left on Wednesday the 9th for Great Lakes and I haven't received his "box" yet.  In fact, I have received nothing. (besides the 9 second I'm here call)   :(  I am so confused and completely lost.  I have no idea what to expect, when to expect it or what I am supposed to do in the mean time.  I know they are not allowed to call unless they earn it but does anyone know when the earliest call would be if he could make one?  I also don't know how to figure out his grad date etc.  I have so many questions and no answers.  I am so grateful for this site and for all of you.  I don't know how I would be able to manage without a support system.  Thank you in advance.

Ok, take a deep breath. It takes at least a week to get the box. Then a couple days later you will receive a form letter that your son will have addressed. They seem to be able to write a short note to you on the back. That form letter will give you his PIR date. This is the graduation date. You can then start thinking about when you will see him again, and that really help. They don't get to mail for several weeks. He will probably be writing to you and stuff them all in the mail then. You can ask your recruiter for his address and start writing. Most likely that will be correct, but check it when you get your form letter, because they do get moved around and I guess things change. Make sure you get a Ship and Div number that is part of the address. Come back here often. You will learn so much from those that are just a few weeks ahead of you in the process. And then there are other moms who are going through what you are and that helps too. If you click on the Chat tab (that's where all off that beeping comes from) They are like hens. They chat with others they know very well, but they will welcome you and answer your questions. Many of them on the Chat are much more experienced and can help to. My son left on Nov 6thand arrived at GL Nov 7th. I got my phone call at 0147the hrs and it was a short call. Infact, I felt a pause in my sons voice after he told me he was there and was fine, would received "the box" soon. To stop from crying I told him I loved him and I would let him go. Still no box as of yet and I feel like a kid waiting on Christmas to arrive. I have letters and cards waiting to be mailed as soon as his address comes in. Having patience is the worst part, on our end. In the end, its worth the wait :)

Don't worry!  He may have chosen to donate his things.  Some moms don't get boxes back because their SRs choose not to send anything home.  It takes up to a week for the box to get to you so you still may see it.  Your form letter will be at least another week to week and a half away and then you will get his grad info, mailing address, etc.  Please don't worry.  You will learn that while your son is at boot camp no news is good news.  While we crave to hear what's going on they are so busy they just don't have the opportunity.  But if something is wrong you would get a call for sure.  Don't worry - we're all here for you and you will get through this with flying colors!

Hi Nick's mom.

My son left on the 8th, and I received his box on Monday (14th).  The recruiter told me the form letters were most likely written over the weekend and put in the mail yesterday (Monday).  They should be arriving sometime later this week or early next week (depending on postal service).  The recruiter gave me my son's address and the recruiter was pretty sure that was final, but so many moms on here have said to wait for the official form letter as that address changes.  I don't want to delay his letters but I don't want to send them too soon, so I will wait a few more day before mailing everything out.  The wait is hard, and we have all shed many tears this past week.  Know that you are not alone.  For me, just knowing his information and talking to his recruiter has helped tremendously.  I still cry, but not as often or as long (thankfully).

@NicksMom- I know how difficult it is for you right now, but I promise it WILL get better.  This website is going to be an everyday AND several times a day visit for you, until finally you just keep it up all the time :-) !! You will build many friendships along the way, so put on your seatbelt and enjoy the ride!!  My daughter's PIR (=graduation date) is next Wednesday, 11/23! OOOORAH!

The box usually takes at least a week to 10 days and the form letter will come a few days after that with his address and graduation information.  Don't worry, you will get it!!  Also he will not be able to call you again til about 3 weeks.  And my sons call was about 4 or 5 days later than most in his division since he was watch the day they were able to call.  The first 2 to 3 weeks are the hardest waiting for the form letter and then the first real letter and then it gets so much easier.  I always got my letters from my son on Thursday so I looked so forward to Thursdays!!  Hang in there nicksmom, it will get easier and I am sure your son is doing fine!!  Hey if my son could do it, so can yours...lol!!  My son just graduated on 10/28 and I have to say considering how difficult it seemed, it was well worth it!  I am soo proud of my son!!
