Yay!!  I received the "box" yesterday and I was sooooo excited.  Everything was in there except my Sonshine.  :(  I was so happy to finally get something and I opened it immediately.  I can't believe how much he fit into that little box.  One thing he didn't send back was his Bible, what an awesome blessing!  I wasn't sure if I would get it back or not (I prayed that he would keep it) and sure enough, it is still with him.  Now I am going to call his recruiter and get his address for letters.  :)  Today is a much better day now that I know there will be actual contact soon.  WooHoo!!  :)

My Prayers are with you all

Barb

aww!  I call my son "Sonshine" too!  too cute :)  You sound in good spirits, good for you

Have a wonderful day :)

We have alot of sonshines missing here. I call my son that as well. He is truly my sunshine.

I call Sean my sunshine too lol. Glad you got the box. There was no form letter in it right? Mine didnt have that either. I couldnt get a hold of the recruiter yesterday until he was about out the door so I am calling back today. Let me know what ship and division your son is in. that is so awesome that they let him keep his bible. I didnt think they could have anything! Was it a pocket sized one? I wonder if I can send one to Sean when I get his address. God Bless Ya!

Yea!! Nicksmom!!!  I knew you'd see it soon.  :)

Pancakehollow (love the name!) - The form letter doesn't come with the box - it's sent about a week or two after - once the divisions are all formed up and they know their address and PIR date.  And I think they get a bible there - I could be wrong.  I never asked my son but I've heard other moms on here say that their kids did pick up bibles at boot camp.  Not sure - if you do send one be sure it is small - pocket sized - they just don't have a lot of room to store stuff.  I've also heard some moms found a "sailor bible" - not idea what that is but you could always look into it.

I picked up a "Sailor's Bible" for my son online and had his name embossed into the cover.  It has a bunch of Navy stuff, some Presidential prayers and a neat index in the back.  (if you're feeling sad... anxious... etc then lists the verse to turn to).

It's definitely not pocket sized but I saw that he could have one, so I tried.  Mine just left yesterday so I won't have the box back for a week, but I'll let you know if the Bible is in there.  I sure hope he keeps it.  There are notes hidden in the Book of Samuel.  I guess I'll know if he reads it if he finds the notes.

Congrats! My dtr called me yesterday right when the box arrived at their dads house. When I talked to him he just said there's nothing in it except a dead cell phone & some stinky shoes. G decided to donate everything else. Proud if him for that w/ winter coming & all the jobless people. I await the letter next.

Hello and thank you for all of the responses.  :)  I think it is so funny that we all call our boys "Sonshine"  that just proves that great minds think alike.

@Barb- I agree, this will be a fun ride for sure.

@Beth- I did talk to his recruiter today and got his ship and DIV #'s, he is on ship 11 and DIV 039... Anyone else have kids in his group??

I sent him a letter today so that hopefully it gets there in time for Sunday delivery.  Then I hope to get one back so I can get all of the info.  :)  I am so excited to know that at least some communication is in the future, even if it is through "snail mail"

As for the Bible, yes it was a "pocket" size. I read somewhere that they could keep one so I sent one just in case.  I am glad he kept it, I know it brings me strength so I hope it will for him too.

Well, heres to more letters  :)

God Bless us all

Mindy

Yay Nicksmom on getting the box. My "other" son (CP) is not my real son so I don't get the box. :( I'll have to call his mom and see if she got it. It sounds like our boys are in the same division, ship 11 div 039, right?

My boys have the sailor bible. My in laws got my son (CH) one for graduation and its pocket sized with his name engraved on it. Then I got CP the same one only paperback and pocket sized. They are pretty cool. I've started putting a bible verse in every letter I send. A little encouragement and words of truth never hurt!

Can't wait for the letters to start pouring in. I know I get those! :)

Hi KIM756... Sorry it took me so long to reply, trying to keep busy.  :)  But yes, Nick is in ship 11 div 039 how exciting that our boys are together.  I havent heard anything since the infamous box but I have sent him letters that I hope he will receive tomorrow.  Then I am hoping and praying that I get one back on Wednesday, I cant wait to talk to him.  :)  I am glad to find another Mom with boys in his group.

Keep in touch

God Bless

Mindy
