Sure do. Hoping maybe we'll get a phone call this week. Trying to send a lot of letters & got other family working on it too. Don't know if 54 days seems short or long but I know it will go fast-at least I hope so!
Was hoping for phone call this past Sunday, but nothing came. Have sent out stack of letters. Family and friends doing the same. My SR is in as an AO? Your SR? hope we here something soon.
Got a short letter today. he said they were able to write on friday since it was a holiday( veterans day). Feet sore from boots but great other wise. Hope to hear from him again soon. Maybe phone call Thanksgiving.
Awesome to hear that everybody is getting letters & stuff! When they get their mail, my son may have a hand in that cause he was appointed their division yeoman. :)
kgobble-Can't find a definition for AO-what is that? If it's his field or whatever they call it, right now ours is a Machinist Mate & he wants to go on a sub. (Better him than me! YUCK, not my idea of a good time!)
We had only 3 weeks of empty nest & now our daughter & her partner have moved back in from Florida so I'm a happy Mom to have at least 1 child & my "other daughter" here.
Our letter came Wednesday & it was sweet-said 3 times he never realized how much he would miss us! Sounds good, said he stays strong by thinking about seeing us @ PIR. Loves the food & told me people from Goodwill work in the mess hall(correct term?) cause I have worked with developmentally disabled adults for 26 years. I think he will be suprised when he finally gets mail. Family, my coworkers, & his buddies are all wanting to write. We are so proud of him! Have a great day & weekend!
AO= Aviation Ordnanceman- they work with ammunition Explosives. Most on Carriers loading /arming aircraft. Also has the option of becoming aircrew.
kgobble,
That is wild! My husband gets upset with our son cause he likes things like that also. His cousin is a Riverine & our SR thinks a lot of him & his Dad gets upset cause he thinks he's gonna influence his decisions about his career. I'm not bothered by it. I'm glad he is close to his cousin & respects him. Whatever our guy is gonna do is his decision. I'll be proud of him no matter what he does for a job!

Monchita,
Yeah, it kinda sucks that only 4 people can go. We actually would have 7 if we could but I guess they have to draw the line somewhere. 1 of those is my brother-in-law who is a retired Marine so he understands. At least we can take Grandma which is a blessing cause they had gotten very close in the last year. Our son checked on her & did things for her since Grandpa passed away. :) I'm kinda hoping for a phone call tomorrow.
Take care,
Roz
monchita: Do not worry about bringing in extra guests. You can do that. The Navy only guarantees the 4, but they WILL get in. As long as they have proper ID. The worst that will happen is that they may have to wait in the Visitors Center until all are seated, but even that doesn't happen often. Usually they can go right in.
diannep,
That's good to hear! Somebody on one of these was like no, you can't have any more than 4 so don't ask. But you are the 2nd person to say the opposite. Like I said, they would understand but it will be awesome if they can see him too! Thank You!

I have not received a phone call or letter (other than the form letter). Driving me nuts. Anyway we will all be ar PIR. Funny thing is that they do not count children < 12 as part of the group of 4 which basically solves my problem except for one. Planning on bringing the picture when my SR was 3 years old in a very authentic navy jumper from the early 1960's. My SR has a 4 year old brother and found a site that sells jumpers for toddlers. Can't wait to get a picture of them together in their suits at PIR. He loves his little brother.
Rombko,
What date did your SR go? It is soooo hard the first couple weeks-the best I can say is hang in there, it feels a little better now. Our son went to GL on 11-1-11. We got our first real letter the week of 11-14-11 if that helps. Try to have a Happy Thanksgiving!
