Our letter came in yesterday! Glad to hear from our SR, but was a little disappointed to learn he wasn't on the Dec 16th PIR schedule. We received "the box" last week, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would of been. I think following the day by day boot camp activities has helped me deal with him leaving. I read it everyday 3-4 times, I guess you can say its therapeutic.

Hi there! Our son called us at about 7:00pm. We talked for 27 minutes.!! WOW!

that is so great! I'm really glad you got to talk to him! So...how did he say things were going?

He said it was going well...he has a cold but won't go for any medicine because it is tooooo much paperwork to do so. He also said the div. won a scholastic flag. They are doing well. And for Krystal from Alaska...he said your husband is so funny! Even the Chief laughs at his comments. So it sounds like they are doing fine. They have an old fashioned Chief and he is VERY strict. So ladies don't worry...the div. is coming along fine.

We got a call last night, too!   It sounds like things are going well for Ship 09 Div 023!     Our son was very happy about their division winning a flag :)

Hi there...our son called us last night and we were able to talk for 27 min. He plans to take the leave and report to A school Jan 6 or 7. Each person's decision will be different. We live in Michigan so it won't be expensive for us to drive him back and he is not worried about going in the negative for leave for 1 or 2 days. He will move his things across to the A school barracks and need to check out. That is what we think and know at this point (GRIN). After all this is the military...

We rec'd a call Thurday night.  It was so great to hear his voice and his attitude.  Sounded very good much better than the letters had been.  He is up in arms on taking leave as he wants to take leave when done with A school  but if he uses his leave up now or goes in the neg he won't have time for when he is between a-school and getting based.  However sometimes they don't have the opportunity to take time between anyways.  Changed our reservations from Navy Lodge to Ramada.  Navy Lodge you pay separate for shuttle so in the long run Ramada is cheaper and better amenities.  Cannot wait for graduation!!!

We are in Michigan too!   Our son told us that he is friends with a few guys from Michigan that will be in A school in Great Lakes (which is where our son's A school is as well) - I'm sure your son is one of them!   Maybe we will meet in Great Lakes :)   Our son will be taking a train back to A School.  By the way, did you see that there is a group on Navy for Moms that is for Michigan Navy Moms?

No I did not see that! I will check that out later...Thanks for the info.

No problem!

After reading Fire's post....I will write my SR this morning and ask him who some of his friends are, and where they are from. Then I will try and find my fellow N4M's in this forum. Since we cannot use last names, we can piece it together. You all can do the same if you like. #from_illinois

Well we got a letter today!!! However, he has changed his mind about leave. I was bummed out. He said he would rather take 10 days after his A school in Great Lakes instead of 5 days after PIR. Also he said he can not work at the recruiter station in our hometown if he takes leave after bootcamp but he could do that after A school to get some leave time for working there...Now my BIG QUESTION is all about liberty from PIR 12/29 until Jan 8 when A school starts. Any one know???

Son called again Saturday 11/19 and we got another letter 11/23.  Totally different then the last phone call on Thursday 11/17.  He was down now on the phone and a very down letter.  I am so concerned he is really struggling with Thanksgiving and missing the family.  How the heck will he survive Christmas!?!  I just keep sending encouraging letters but feel so helpless.
