I had a weird experience yesterday. I called my sons recruiter to find out the mailing address for him. I was told first that he was ship 11 division 037. then later I called back to findout the grad date and was told that there wasnt one yet. Then I verified the address with the office manager just in case.

Well he told me the info I had gotten earlier was wrong. He said my son is at ship 5 div 311. I didnt know what that meant until I did some research and had other moms voice their concern. The recruiter should have said something. I am waiting for the recruiters office to open again so I can find out more. I have not recieved a phone call from my son. What is going on? Can they go to ship 5 for wisdom teeth? it seems like that is unlikely. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I Take it you work at Great Lakes. Are you a counselor for the sr's that are separating?

I don't work on the bootcamp side..I just retired from the "A" School side and yes there I was a counselor helping Sailors who where getting out...

If you can...see if you can get him back on your medical insurance as he will NOT be eligable for medical insurance though the USN.  If being seperated during bootcamp neither is he eligable for the GI Bill, VA Home loan...or any of the benfits that are given a Vet.... A Vet is someone who has served 180 days in the USN.

Thanks Angie, I appreciate your help.

My son is in Ship 05.  He graduated on 11/4 (822) and moved to THU that afternoon.  He is waiting on a signature before being moved across the street.  He is working with other scruffs but is having difficulty finding out any information on how to apply for holiday leave for Christmas.  Can anyone help with this?

Are there any other moms from divisions 822 or 823 who have sailors being held in ship 05?

Odds are they won't give him info as they are waiting to see if he gets moved to the "A" school...if he put in paper work at THU...than moved to the "A" School....the paper work at THU would be void and he would have to request all over again....

Angie,  thanks for helping me understand the process.  No one has given him any indication of how long he will be there.  He's told us not to even send mail, since it is possible he could be moved at any time (or not).  He mentioned there are other men there in similar situations (waiting on signatures) who have been waiting for months.  I think he said one guy has been in limbo for 9 months!  If he doesn't request leave and doesn't get moved to "A" school, does that mean he will spend Christmas alone in THU???  Is there a deadline for submitting the leave request?  What suggestions do you have for him?

Recommend he keep asking about what needs to be done for him to transfeer to the "A" School..  not trying to be rude...there is more to it than just a signature...he may need a waiver for something...yes people can be held at THU on RTC side for a while to make sure everything is straightened out.

There is a chance that he could be stuck at THU over the holidays...but they normally allow those in THU liberty so you might be able to come up here for a visit if his move to the "A" School doesn't happen.

Yes...it sucks...

Ok.  I hope things work out for him.  We just spent money on going to PIR so probably can't make another trip this soon.  We will do as you suggest and encourage him to keep asking every day so he doesn't get lost in the shuffle.  Thanks for listening.

Ask him what he is waiting for so he can transfeer...than if he tells you, you will know more than a signature..If you find out what he is waiting for someone here might be able to shed a better light on what is going on.

Stay strong stay postive!

Angie,

Talked to  my son tonight on the phone.  He did not get the paper work turned in on time so was not able to request leave for Christmas. He is clueless about why he is being held in THU. All he knows is that he needs something from medical to be able to move on.He says he enjoys working out several times a day, especially with the DiveMo instructors and that being a scruff is not so bad.  What he dislikes most is having to share sleeping quarters with a 100 men.  I told him what you suggested about keep on asking about what needs to be done for him to transfer to A school, but he told me he really doesn't know who to ask.  He said it is different from BC where he knew his RDC.  At THU, different people are rotating in and he's not sure who to approach with his questions. Tomorrow he has van duty - he is the driver that takes people to their medical appointments.  I suggested while he is at medical waiting to pick up somebody, maybe he could use that opportunity to inquire about his status.  Any more suggestions for him?

I realized that most of the discussion in this group are about sailors being separated from the Navy, but I have not found a discussion group for THU sailors in Ship 05.  I appreciate you taking time to answer my questions, but let me know if there is someone else that I should go to.
