My son's PIR is November 10th, so he will only be in Goose Creek for a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving.  If we were to visit him for Thanksgiving, how much time could he spend with us?

Also, what happens at Christmastime?

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.  I'm trying to make plans to see him as much as possible, especially on holidays, and we have a pretty big family (he's one of 5 kids) to cart around and plan for.

Hi Jo1, i just checked the ticket fare is now $850 r/t. It is wiser to just save the date and he will come home Jan for longer time. Much better than fight the holiday traffic and chaos. Are you also going to grad Dec 2? My son is wanting to buy a car. Has your son mentioned this to you?

Hi Praise,

I wish I could come to the graduation but we can't.  I do plan on attending Power School graduation so I hope it's next summer before school starts the end of August.  We only get two personal days a year so I hope it's before then.  If not I don't know if they will let me take it off without pay.  I didn't know they could come home in January for a longer period.  I'm going to mention that to my son.  If they are coming at Christmas can they come home in January too?  My son wants to buy a car too and wanted to at Christmas time but I think he's going to wait awhile and save money.  He doesn't leave base much because he he wants to save money.

Hi Jo1,

I am planning to every graduation because that is the one way he feel supported. They cannot leave anytime sooo sad. This place is driving them nuts I heard so I asked my son to go ahead and spend his money for relaxation and save some. His mental health is more important for me than anything else. In fact I sent him money so he wont feel pressured with the environment there. He wants to buy a car after we have done a project that with Gods help will help him financially to easily afford one.

I am not sure if your son can fo home Jan. They earn so many hours "leave"per week so he can only leave if he has saved days. Is your son also an ET?

Praise,

My son is an EM.  They are under a lot of pressure so I wish my son would get off base more and see the sights but I know it's hard to do when they don't have a car.  Have fun at the graduation.  I wish I could go but it's just not possible right now.

I was wondering if they can get a car on a timeshare so they can all share the expense ? Or form a carpool system there??? Is there an SC mom there who can spearhead a resolution to the car issue?? Did not get the stats on how many students are in NNPTC, any idea?

Welcome to the Military!

hello all my son pir was 10/21/11.but DIDNT pir that date....im also a nuke mom ..my son hasnt started A school yet..n he has been in sc almost 3 wks..n im goin to visit him next wk cuz i didnt see him since he left to bc..he didnt graduate withhis div ,,was push back n was placed in the fit program.so finally im going to visit him..n spend some time withhim ..at goose creek..hope everyone is doing well...

That is nice. They need all the support while there.

After the PIR , they are assigned when they leave to fly to SC. Your grad will let you know so ask. When they get there, they ay have to wait for a group before they can start. Again they will be informed how any weeks before they start a class. My son only waited for 2 weeks.

Is your Nuke Grad N Go after PIR? If so, and you are attending PIR, may I suggest you book a room at the O'Hare Hilton for the same night as graduation. If you Nuke is Grad N Go, they will most likely be taken to the airport in the late evening or early (2am) morning and will have to hang out at the USO. But...if you have the room, they can join you there (without leaving the airport) and sleep, visit etc.. Good Luck and Congratulations to you and your Sailor.

Fishmom - My SR is Div. 905 and PIR is 12/16 too!!  He is to be at the airport at 2:00am so I am meeting him there, we were both told I can go all the way to the gate and plan to spend my day with him there!!

My question is Christmas!! I know he has to process in and then request the leave, if he doesn't process in fast enough or they deny the leave - can I come up there and at least see him for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?? I would be willing to take others and hopefully cook for them or take them out to dinner??  Any info on this would be most appreciated!!

Happy Dance... Were leaving for SC tomorrow, so excited havent seen our "Nuke" since he left for Boot Camp7 months ago.  Although he called last pm & has a couph /URI says its going around there.      HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
