My daughter leaves Texas for BC on Nov 20th, 2011.  I am a former Sailor myself.  BC does not stop for holidays.  They treat it the same as if you were active duty.  Christmas and Thanksgiving were only a real "holiday" if you had requested leave or off base CHIT to be able to leave and spend time with others.  They want you to be prepared for the time that you serve where holidays are not exactly what you would expect. Yes, the chow hall gives you so really good food and people are a little nicer, lol.  But I remember being on ship and not really remembering it was Thanksgiving because as I sat in the Persian Golf waiting to find out what the last explosion was...the last thing on my mind was Turkey.  I hope this helps.

ProudofGar, (posts above) has a son leaving from TX that same day =) and Thanks for the info!!
Close we are in Oklahoma he will be leaving out of Oklahoma City on the 21st!!!!
Mine leaves from Los Angeles, CA on Nov. 22nd.  I heard the opposite, that it might be shortened due to the holidays.  I will be curious to find out which it is.  For them I hope it's earlier.
Hi leaglen! My son leaves out of San Jose on Nov. 22nd we should keep in touch so we can compare what they are going througha and us as moms!

They might add a couple days because of Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years.  They are not counting as training days and he will have time to study and such.  My daughter leaves from Texas on the 20th.  I also did boot camp in 1991, lol.  The holidays will be a bit hard for them because they will get homesick.  Tell him that we are thankful for their service.  You might want to do a Thanksgiving dinner before he leaves.

Thanks for the feedback! We had a great party (sort of a mix-mash of going away, his 18th bday, Thanksgiving and xmas all in one!) on Saturday...a lot of love in my house, and many tears, both for missing him and full of pride. I hope the 20th went smoothly for you...

We are here now in the hotel with my son, he ships out in the AM.

Best wishes that everything went smoothly today! What an emotional day we had yesterday!! =( I have to keep busy I think...

Hello!

We will be looking for the mom/wife/GF etc. who will be interested in creating the 01/27/2012 PIR group.

Someone who’s recruit arrived on 11/21 – possibly the 28th or 29th. (Not sure if the decided to “finish” the TG before Thanksgiving) So ladies, if it is something you think you'd be interested in...Friend me and send me a message.

Right now I am seeing some of the moms who’s recruit arrived at RTC on the 21st and 22nd are receiving ship/div numbers from their recruiters. One of you would be perfect for this!

Please remember that when I post dates of when your SR may PIR...it is not exact. I am basing it on the earliest reports and making an "educated" guess on the cutoff date for a TG. BC can be anywhere from 7.5 to 9 weeks. Your recruiter may have your recruit’s ship/division as early as 72 hours after arriving at BC. I will take this ship/div # for the purpose of starting a PIR group BUT please wait for the form letter that your recruit will send home to address your mail and send it. The address your recruiter gets oftentimes is incomplete or has too much information that is not necessary for the address.

Thank You!
