We got our second letter yesterday.  It sounds to me like things are starting to gel.  He mentioned a bunkmate who has a name!  (You gotta know my son.  He can be around people for weeks and never find out their names.  This exchange of names indicates a real milestone has been reached!)  He told me that at PIR he will be on duty at a door that visitors may not pass through but that I may approach it and wave to him.  So he's learning his job.  Most of the letter was about getting him out for the day on Christmas.  I have to work that day but my husband will be going.  Nobody say a word.  I'm pretending I don't mind too much. That it's only 3 weeks after Christmas that I get to see him for PIR.  That I can be mature about this.  Do not, under any circumstances, indicate that I have any excuse to feel sorry for myself.  No one will be opening a package of guilt for Christmas on my account.  I want my son to enjoy the day with a light heart.

I'm sorry you won't be able to travel with your Husband but it's very selfless of you to do that for your son, he should be proud :) I do have a favor to ask you. My in laws and I still haven't gotten that letter yet. Do you mind adopting my fiance so I might be able to see him for Christmas?

We haven't gotten the letter either.  My son said it should be coming soon.  But if we get it before you I'll let you know.  I think we have to reply by mid month so if we don't here this week we should rattle some cages.

Did anyone get a call today?

No call yet : (  Maybe this sunday.

Please don't take this the wrong way but thank god. Someone on the facebook forum said that they got a one minute conversation with their son and I thought maybe I had missed a call and didn't know it. I really hope they call soon. :(

Actually, this is the end of their 3rd week according to Scott. The fact that they've already had their swim qual and a recorded PFT, they wouldn't only be in their second week. When I was in Navy boot camp, swim was second week, and recorded PFT was 3rd. This is the end of the third week.

He might just have his days mixed up. I'm sorry this is confusing, I know that doesn't help. Based on my knowledge from when I went through boot and what Scott is saying he's going through, this is the end of week 3. If you count, their PIR week is number 8.

Thanks Natalie(TomsMom).  He seems to write on Sunday and we get the letter on Wednesday.  If I don't get it by this Wednesday I'll start to hound him.

My son is also in Division 908, ship 02. Like you , I am also confused as to why my son is in this division. I got a letter this week and he sounds pretty happy, but tired. I am happy to know you are out there. I can use all the moral support I can get.

Hi to the other family members of Ship 02 Dive 908. My son Alex is in this division as well. I've been reading everyone's replies. I've had no calls, but the letters are coming in to his girlfriend in IN, his dad in IL, his sister in Chicago and me in FL. Thank goodness for Facebook as we all keep each other posted on what we are hearing, so communication with all of your other family members really helps!! Your SR wants to get mail, so encourage your family (yes, all of them), but warn them they won't all hear from him/her, but share what you hear.............what did we ever do without Facebook!! Just writing actual letters is re-learning a dying skill..............where's my keyboard and email!!

I just got a call!!!! He's doing good and sounded really good. After a month of not talking to him, it was just great to hear his voice!!
