My daughter entered into boot camp last week. I just got her address yesterday. What do you think I can send or do for her if anything?

You cannot send any gifts for Christmas at the RTC.  Save the gifts for after PIR.  You can send her the things that you are able to send any time:  a card in a plain white envelope (no noisy cards and no confetti...), stamps, an activated phone card, a few bandaids, a sheet of mole skin (some cut it in strips and do include how to use it if the SR is not familiar with how to use it for blisters), pictures (but it is better to print pictures on the paper you write you letter on to save room), a manila envelope to mail back some of the letters to free up storage room..... DON'T send all of the above in the same card--boy would that draw attention to your recruit!!!

The recruits will have "holiday schedule" on Christmas Day and New Year's Day--down time from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This is the same as they have every Sunday, except their first Sunday, with the exception that they will have a nicer meal on Christmas Day.

Join the following groups, or at least look at the information within them, to get more information and support:  New Members Stop HereBoot Camp Mom's, and/or PIR Reference Information.  Since your know her Division number , go to GROUPS: Listed By PIR Date thru Feb 3, 2012 (Pass In Review, ie Boot Camp Graduation) and join the group for her PIR date and connect with others who have loved ones training with your SR. If the PIR date is not listed yet,, it will be soon, watch for it there and/or get info about starting it in Boot Camp Mom's.  (Underlined words within this reply indicate a clickable link.)

Thank You so much for your repy. I will go out and pick up the things you mentioned. I am surprised how much I miss her even though I was excitied for her to follow her dream.

Merry Christmas

thanks for this post.  Very helpful.  Never thought about mole skin!  Manilla envelope is good too.  My SR is getting letters everyday!

I recieved my first letter today! Her graduation is Feb. 10 but has not recieved any of my letters yet. I hope to hear from her again soon.

Mamie

The recruits often don't get mail until the second or third week because of P-days and then having to train the Recruit Mail Petty Officer.  Join the group, PIR 02/10/2012 TG 12 — 11 Divisions (061–068, 805, 806 & 912 (clickable link), to connect with others with loved ones training with your daughter.

Thank you for your help!

:o)

My son will be at b/c over Christmas 2012 so I have been reading up on the holiday thing to prepare myself....seems like lots of different experiances.  My son's recruitrer said that basic closes for the entire week between Christmas and NY but I have not seen any posts from past recruits confirming that.  He said they close and so my son will be in b/c and extra week to make up that time.....I guess I will know more as things progress.

The schools shut down, boot camp does not.

That makes sense, I had a feeling the recruiter was mistaken.  I kept thinking how miserable it would be to just be hanging out for a week during the holidays....

They keep training, although they do get a holiday routine, the chance to go to church if they desire, and a good  holiday meal. The schedule may be relaxed a little, but the staff is missing their holidays too to be with the recruits.

You can send cards, letters and pictures, so that will help.  No packages of course.

I was in boot camp for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.  I couldn't even call anyone, my folks were working overseas.  It sucked, but I was alright with it.  Badge of honor, toughing out the holidays.
