Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

SON LEAVING MONDAY FOR BOOTCAMP
My son leaves for bootcamp on Monday. He was originally scheduled for December 20th. Before Christmas, but close enough that we could have had an early Christmas and it would have felt like it. We were only told a couple weeks ago that they would be moving up the date and then only yesterday that it would be Monday. I keep crying like a little baby. It seems so silly because it isn't like he'll be gone forever. My husband and younger son think I'm silly for crying, but I can't seem to help myself. Are there any other mothers out there struggling with this?
They say it's empty nest, but I still have my younger son around. I guess I just worry how my older son will handle bootcamp. He made this choice all on his own and we support him completely and are extremely proud of him. He keeps counting down the days and telling me to see my reaction I think. I have tried not to cry around him even though he knows I will come Monday.
I would appreciate hearing from any mothers who have been there or are there now.

Mary K, I agree with you about the anticipation of leaving was far worse than the actual event. I paced the floor like a mother lion for days protecting my young. Knowing that the 12th was looming like that predator in the night. Then the day came and while I was sad, I was excited for my son!
I'm just anxious about graduation now. I so want my parents to see the event. But with only 4 guests per recruit, I don't know if they will.
Hang on there! I know I am.

My son left 12/7, we received box on Monday, still no letter. Is anyone else from that date still waiting for letter?

Hi there!
My son left on the 8th and his box was received Tuesday but I am still waiting on the letter! Hopefully I'll find out if he (or the Navy) kept his phone for some reason along with his PIR date so we can start to make arrangements for time off and travel.

My oldest son's letter took a couple of weeks to arrive after he left for boot camp July 2010. My youngest just left on the 8th of December, so I am hoping to have it sometime next week.

Hi, our son left the 8th, a week ago today. We received the box Tuesday eve too. It was pretty hard, our sons stuff, the smell of him but no son. It is hard for us, he's our youngest. The recruiter gave us his address last Friday, the day after he left so we have sent letters but of course we haven't heard anything. We were told that graduation would be 10th or 17th of February but I don't know for sure because dates and plans have been changed before.

We still have not received our son's letter but have also been told to expect a Feb 10th or 17th graduation ( our son left on the 8th and is our youngest of only 2, several years apart). His phone and charger were missing from his box when it arrived. His recruiter sent a text a short while ago stating they do allow some of them to keep the phone charger and cell phones without the battery so they can plug in and call when given the privilege. I know what you mean about emptying the box...........it breaks my heart even though I know this is a wonderful opportunity for him.

My son left the 7th, received letter today Ship 11 Division 61..anyone else out there? PIR 2/10. My son's phone and charger came home in box, how come some were allowed to keep them?

I don't get the cell phone thing here, some get to keep them others don't. Our sons phone was in the box. I guess I feel envious if your child was able to keep their phone....why? I guess it ups your chances of hearing from them sooner then ones who didn't get to keep them. Of course this is only speculation ......as I'm anxiously waiting to hear from my son. I hope we all hear something soon.

my son sent his cell phone in his box too.. I thought only stamps and address book were ONLY things they could keep.. everything else was donated or sent home their choice

I have not heard from my son as of yet so I do not know for sure this is the case. I only have the response from his recruiter when I made him aware of the items not returned home (cell and charger). He told me the Chief here is the person that stated they allow some to keep but he did not explain how the decision is made. Did your son call from his cell when he arrived at GL?
