My son leaves for bootcamp on Monday.  He was originally scheduled for December 20th.  Before Christmas, but close enough that we could have had an early Christmas and it would have felt like it.  We were only told a couple weeks ago that they would be moving up the date and then only yesterday that it would be Monday.  I keep crying like a little baby.  It seems so silly because it isn't like he'll be gone forever.  My husband and younger son think I'm silly for crying, but I can't seem to help myself.  Are there any other mothers out there struggling with this?

They say it's empty nest, but I still have my younger son around.  I guess I just worry how my older son will handle bootcamp.   He made this choice all on his own and we support him completely and are extremely proud of him.  He keeps counting down the days and telling me to see my reaction I think.  I have tried not to cry around him even though he knows I will come Monday.

I would appreciate hearing from any mothers who have been there or are there now.

On the week leading up to my SR's departure each day  I would say to him this is the last day you will have to do this chore or that activity.  he would say YYYYEEEESSSS and I would tear up.  I can feel for you having your date moved up.  Don't beat yourself up for crying. We Mom's handle our emotions in our own way.  My hubby did not shed a tear yet  little sister and I balled like babies burring our heads in Dad's chest.  Dad just beamed with pride with a very wet shirt! Does your SR have an A school assigned?  Mine is in Nuke school.  What ship and division?

He is going on regular sub, not nuke.  He is going to Grouton, CT we think.  He is ship 12, div 057.

Hey our sons are in the same division.  I am writing him every few days.  I am actually doing really well although of course I miss him.  My son was really looking so forward to starting this part of his life that I am really happy for him.  Of course I also have a 17 year old daughter at home that keeps me very involved and busy with her extracurricular activities.  When she leaves for college next year I'm sure the empty nest will really set in.  I took off work for a month before my son left so I could cook dinner each day and just be around more.  I am back at work now so I'm back to my usual schedule.  I am looking forward to PIR (graduation).  We still have not received a box of his things.  He had his cellphone with him and his wallet and money etc.  I am starting to think he donated everything but would be surprised if he donated his cell phone too.  I was wondering if they would store his cellphone and wallet until graduation.  We haven't received any calls since that first night when they arrived.

They can keep their wallets, but my son's phone came back.  Maybe they are holding his phone.  I've heard some have kept their phones.  Not sure who gets to keep and who doesn't.  So your son is in Ship 12, Div 057 is that correct?

Yes he is Ship 12, Div 057.  I would love to get a letter or something soon.

I don't think they will finish week 2 until Friday.  We are calulating this because the 1st three days are spent getting physicals, shots, etc.  Of course, this is just an estimate my husband and I have calculated.  They supposedly cannot get mail till around week two so we most likely won't see any letters until next week at the earliest I'm guessing.  I would love to hear from my son as well.  If you hear anything before then, please let me know.

I feel like you wrote this for me..  My son left on the 14th and the whole week before and after I have cried like a blubbering idiot.  I just got "the box" today and it started again..  I know he is doing what he wants and it's very good place for him right now.  I keep thinking that and I am getting better and better everyday..  It does get easier.. Atleast that's what they say...

My son left on the 13th i have his box but I have not received his letter yet is anyone else waiting on the letter?

My son left on December 5 and we got his box finally on December 20th.  It took fifteen days to get the box.  His cell phone was in his shoes like everyone else had been saying.  He didn't get to keep it afterall. We received the form letter about a week prior to that.  We also just received letters from him. We all received our letters on December 22- 17 days after he left.  He wrote my husband and I and he wrote to my mom and dad as well. His handwriting was the best I have ever seen.  It was very legible.  Apparently this structure is very good for him.  He still has his absolutely wonderful sense of humor.  We all laughed and got a kick out of his letter and how he worded everything.  We are looking so forward to his PIR on February 3rd.

Yes, my son's letter that I got yesterday as well, was very upbeat.  I'm glad he is doing so well and can't wait till 2/3/12.

Our PIR is the same day.  Our letter was sent on day 16.  So awesome to hae something in writing from him.  I hae read it so many times already.  Counting the days!

My nephew left the 12th.  The box came on the 19th but no letter yet.
