I would be interested in communicating with anyone who has a son or daughter in the same ship & div as my son to share information we hear from them.

My daughter is ship 12 div. 057, hello my name is Mary.

Hi Mary,

How are you doing?  What date did your daughter leave?  My son left from Harrisburg, PA on 12/5/11.  We had his box by the 7th or 8th and the standard letter with his address by the 12th.  I have been writing though I know he probably hasn't gotten a letter yet.  I heard some people saying they sent stamps and envelopes.  I thought about it last night and I think I'm going to send one self-address, stamped envelope per letter that way I can hopefully ensure he will write at least a few times.  He's never been much for writing even in school so I doubt he'll want to write much.  As long as I know he is doing okay, that is fine with me.  I figured if we could hook up with other parents in the same ship and div, we could share info especially if our sons or daughters aren't as forthcoming with information their parents want to know.

Hi Navmom,

sorry it took me so long to get to my email.  I was really hoping to get a call on xmas but no such luck.  I loved her letter tho!  My daughter shipped out of Columbus, OH on Dec.6th.  One thing that has helped me through this is that I am ex Navy and it helped because I knew exactly what she was going through day one and out.  Although maybe not such a great thing because i worried all the more, since I knew how I felt at the time...she wrote me that she is the Yoeman for her div.  I remember I was the PWPO for mine and always thought Yoeman looked better, lol.  I hope your son is doing well.  This being the beginning of their 4th week, things do get a bit more routine and less stressfull!  Christmas eve was awful, I cried like a baby even tho I know she is going through something that is going to change her life in incredible ways.  Have you booked your room and travel accomodations for PIR yet?  Keep in touch and maybe some of us will get to meet at graduation!  Happy New Year to you and yours!

We're working on travel accomodations. Will stay on this site to get more info about PIR.

My husband travels for work quite often so we were lucky to have hotel points and used them to book a room for us and one for my parents.  We plan to be there by Thursday afternoon and stay until Saturday.  We aren't sure yet when our son will be leaving for A school, but he isn't doing his there.

Although there are only 4 tickets, which will be used for my husband, my younger son, myself and my mother, my stepfather is going also in hopes of making it into the graduation ceremony.  My stepfather is retired Navy and hopes he will be able to see our son graduate.   I met my husband when he was in the Navy stationed on the same ship as my stepfather.  We met when I went to visit my mother.  I lived in PA and she was in CA at the time.

Sean's letter was upbeat and made us feel better about how he was doing.  He hasn't been very athletic the last couple years.  He used to play soccer and was good at it, but he quit when all of his close friends were cut from the team.  He is a good runner though.  He is smart, but was never all that motivated.  We were hoping the Navy would change that and based on his atitutde when he left and his letter, it just might be exactly what he needed.  Time will tell.  If you hear any news from your daughter you can share, please do.

Hi I'm Amy. My son, Danny left on 12/5 from Boston.  Overjoyed to have received our first two "real" letters yesterday 12/22!! Sounds like things are going well.  He had received letters from us, other family and friends as well.

Yes, our son left 12/5 from Harrisburg, PA and he also said he had gotten our letters and wanted more.  We are looking forward to graduation.

My son mentioned in the letter I got today that he has a new friend from Boston.  Maybe it is your son.  Of course their may be several from Boston.  Did you guys hear about the matching color scarf thing so we can all find each other and our kids can find us in the crowd.  Sounds like a good idea.  We just have to decide on a color amongst ourselves and post for the other divisions in our PIR so they won't choose the same color.  Let me know what you all think about doing that.

Hi, I hadn't heard of the matching color scarf thing.  Sounds logical.   Will we get a graduation package or any "official" invitation or info from the Navy?

Hi Deanna, Is anyone as confused as I am??  Read on PIR for Dummies some info that is driving me crazy, not to mention that I haven't talked to my son in five weeks.  Letters, yes.  Anyway, some mom got to graduation this fall and her daughter had received her orders for A school the day before grad.  Mom and daughter spent  a couple of hours together before her recruit had to pack and fly out the same day.    This was after traveling a long way and expecting to spend a BIT more time with her daughter.  I don't want to miss graduation but would like to be informed.  After all they are our kids, not adults; for a while yet anyway...Do any parents get the school date ahead of time?  Is there someone to talk to?   My husband and I plan on going on Feb. 3rd but I feel like I'm floundering without "official" and specific info.  The website has been helpful for where to and, where NOT to stay, and other items but I'm feeling anxious and lost.

I am wondering if there is any way their recruiter would know about the A school start date.  I am just banking on him not leaving asap.  I sure hope we have the weekend together so he can have just a little bit of down time.  I think I will go talk to his recruiter in the mall and see if he knows anything about the next HM school in San Antonio.  We will not get a official invitation.  The packet they sent should have everything we need.  Our names are just on the list.  I know it said we need to print a parking permit ahead of time and have that special password and an ID at the gate to get in to PIR on the base.  Hang in there and hope for the best.  I bought some material today but forgot to get the stretchy thread.  I was going to experiment with making a scarf like that pattern someone put on the site. Thank goodness I saved that email to a folder in my yahoo account.
