While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

SON LEAVING MONDAY FOR BOOTCAMP
My son leaves for bootcamp on Monday. He was originally scheduled for December 20th. Before Christmas, but close enough that we could have had an early Christmas and it would have felt like it. We were only told a couple weeks ago that they would be moving up the date and then only yesterday that it would be Monday. I keep crying like a little baby. It seems so silly because it isn't like he'll be gone forever. My husband and younger son think I'm silly for crying, but I can't seem to help myself. Are there any other mothers out there struggling with this?
They say it's empty nest, but I still have my younger son around. I guess I just worry how my older son will handle bootcamp. He made this choice all on his own and we support him completely and are extremely proud of him. He keeps counting down the days and telling me to see my reaction I think. I have tried not to cry around him even though he knows I will come Monday.
I would appreciate hearing from any mothers who have been there or are there now.

Bradsmom, my son left on the 14th as well. Where did he fly out from? I got the box on Monday but still no news. When his box came home, his glasses weren't in it. Does anyone know if they keep their own glasses for PIR? I can't imagine him in those big black frames! I'm guessing by now that is the least of his concerns. It's the waiting and wondering that's the hard part. We always have Christmas Eve at our house with all of the family and some friends. I can't seem to get going with baking or cooking or cheer. Can't imagine a Christmas without my son. This is the tough part.

He can wear his glasses until they issue the Navy ones, then he must wear those. He might or might not get to wear them at PIR.

He flew from Boston.. We live in Winchendon.. My son wears contacts and I noticed they sent home everything. Even his extra contacts. The book said he could bring enough for 2 weeks and he didn't even get to keep them. The only thing he kept which I don't know why is his cell phone.. I hope that he calls for Christmas because like you this is the first Christmas without him here. My little guy is really starting to understand that he is not coming home for the holidays and it's so hard to make him understand. The waiting and wondering are the hardest part for me too.. I keep asking my husband what he thinks is going on and how he thinks he is doing. We just want to hear his voice....

MC, just wondering. We are in NY. I got to wait with him in the airport and saw all these great kids. Just wondering if one of them was yours...thanks for the info about the glasses Anti M, sure would make for better pictures if he got his own glasses back or even contacts. At that point, I won't even notice for being so excited just to see him!

I just took off the ugly things for my boot camp portraits. The process is fast and they don't give them any time to primp. I wasn't even wearing my own uniform, it was a fake one cut down the back and a prop hat! I don't know if they still do that. But I have a very dazed look on my face in it!
As for PIR, they do let them gussy up a bit. I'd have to look in pictures to see if they get their glasses back. I'm thinking yes, because they let the women wear make up. My PIR was long ago, when we had a boot camp in Orlando.
The list given as to what they can take can fly out the window in the madness that is in processing. Again, a herd of new recruits, lots of shouted instructions and hurry up. But anyone keeping a cell phone is flat surprising to me unless they just changed the rules again.

I was wrong, his cell phone was in his shoes. Just checked.. Now just wondering how they are taking care of the contact issue.. They sent all of them home. I know he is blind without them.. Hope to find out soon...

I missed the cell as well and since his box was broken open thought it had fell out. The Chief here said he may have been able to keep it so I didn't check again. We received a call this week for security info and our son said check the shoes again...there it was! ( it was so nice to hear from him) He wears a size 12, its a small phone when closed in such a big shoe and he wedged it sideways in the toe so it did not even budge when his dad tapped them on the heels. We just didn't check far enough inside. He will be glad when he finally receives his letter letting him know we found it. Glad you found your son's as well.

We watched a couple videos that show up on the Navydads site that say bootcamp new 1of 1 and 2of 2 which really show you a lot of what is happening with them. They do vision checks and I think are probably issued glasses fairly quickly.

i am in the same boat. my heart goes to you. but google navy boot camps and watch the videos, one of them shows what happens once they get to the airport, then shuttled to base..... there is so much to watch, it helped a little, today is day 13. 48 day until graduation, i guess once i hear from him, it will get better, but EVERYONE even his recruiter, says its worth the wait. i have one at home also, im glad im not the only one who bawls like a baby ... lol

Thanks Terriansmom and tir1122.. I received the letter today, so we finally have his address to write. I was so happy. This is such a tough Christmas for me. I am trying my best to make it good for the little one, but everytime I think about my big guy I just cry. I am so very proud of him, my husband and I both are.. We just miss him for Christmas. We are so looking forward February 17th...Graduation Day !!

Good morning and Merry Christmas!
I know it is so hard but today (it has been a rough morning), as we celebrate the birth of the Son of God, we can also celebrate the birth of our children. We can be so proud of their decision. Make it a day for the family to celebrate them as well as we are all together for the holiday. Be brave and be strong for them...they will be home soon and we can celebrate again!

I'm not a mother of a sailor, but my spouse of 5 years joined after seeking more in life and I just wanted to let you know I've been following this forum and it has been comforting to me. I'm a little lost without him, we've never been apart (high school sweethearts). I was thrilled today to get his first "letter" in the mail. With his confirmed graduation date of February 17th. I cannot wait to see him again. So proud of my Sailor <3
