Alright! As of now, Benjamin is in San Diego and we are in Minnesota!! We are having a really difficult time figuring out a few things:

-Money is an issue. We are living close to paycheck to paycheck right now. Any extra seems to be going to help us knocking out bills/loans and my amazon child who grows like a weed!! My concern is how we are going to do the move with little money. Can anyone give me direct links or phone numbers or anything about financial assistance to help us move? Our sponsor has not been much of any help. This is why I'm here.

-I am horribly stressed about trying to find a place that is safe and comfy. It'll just be myself and my toddler. We have been looking at the Lincoln Military Housing because it seems to simplify a lot of stuff for us. The only thing I'm opposed to is on-base housing because it eliminates our BAH entirely.

-ugh... I feel like I had a ton more questions but I'm sure I'll think of them as some of my questions get answered. I'm sorry in advanced if some of these are found elsewhere but please understand I'm under a little stress and I don't use N4M's often!

I don't recommend Lincoln. They just had a HUGE issue with black mold. It was all over the news. I would live off base at a place that is way below your BAH so you can pocket more of the money.

In Norfolk? MAAAAAAN!! That suuucks! It's just tough because we can't really afford to get out there to browse around either. Benjamin said he'll get like 10 days for house hunting leave or something but it's another money issue - to just fly him around and rent a car, etc... That's why I'm hunting for lots of advice!

There is a PCSing group on here you should check out. Lot's of wives going through the same stuff as you and they will have more recent information to give you. I'm on my phone, so I can't pull up the link but it's called PCSing/Moving. Check it out.

Merci! I'll look it up.

My concern is we're not even really sure where we want to move either. I have heard good things about Virginia Beach but also that it's a pricier place to live. I was kind of eyeballing Hampton Roads because I found an attachment parenting group that meets up in that area - but that's all I know about it. Lol! I'll email you tonight with some more questions if that's alright?

Just FYI: Hampton Roads encompasses Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Va Beach. So to say that a group is meeting in Hampton Roads isn't saying much.

Lol! good! Thank you!! I'm such a boob... this is why I'm so nervous to move to somewhere I've never been!!

I hear that! We moved to our apartment without ever seeing it or the area before. But it turned out okay (: What ship will your husband be on?

Keersarge (sp??)
I really was not worried about moving until I heard a family pulled up into an apartment and literally pulled out after seeing the bad area and stuff. They ended up staying in a hotel until they found a place and it's just not what we can afford. I was thinking about finding a dumpy apartment and doing a 3 month lease and getting to know my area/boundaries but the deposit and stuff really screws us over often.

Keep in mind that the Navy Lodge is just outside of the Norfolk base and the rate is only 65.00 per night. You don't have to pay any other taxes or fees on top of that. Their rooms have kitchenettes and you can even get a two room suite for 95.00 per night. It might be better to pay 65.00 or 95.00 for a few nights to find the right place than to blindly find the wrong place. The folks at the Navy Lodge are so nice also! I'm sure they would be happy to share any insight they may have on good areas to live.

Good luck and hope the move goes smoothly!

I appreciate that thanks!

I live in Woodmere Trace apartments, pretty close to the base and has a library right down the street. I like it a lot, and they were doing lots of specials, since they're under new management. The apartments are a bit old, but they are VERY good about getting things fixed. The neighborhood seems pretty quiet, too. I could give you the phone number if you'd like.
