Anyone else's son/daughter on this ship/div?

I just got 2 letters from my son! Anybody else hear from theirs today? Sounds like this division is tough. He says he is in  with all rescue swimmers and swcc and he's becoming good friends with several of them. I have to admit, when I got the letters I was crying so hard I couldn't even see to read the first one. It was several days' worth in one envelope. It was fantastic to hear from him finally! He said I should see him make his bed and fold his clothes. You should all be getting letters now too!

My son was happy to have questions to answer. Said he had lots to tell me, but forgot when he wrote the 1st note. :-)

I had to laugh when my son noted that he learned to iron and polish his boots!  We'll see about the other stuff like making his bed & folding his clothes.... didn't like that he has had to stay in the push-up position for up to an hour at a time- thought it was funny that one punishment was eating only with a spoon for the week.

dellene- wouldn't it be cool if our boys made it through SWCC together to the end?  It's not a "walk in the park" they have chosen, but what a wonderful accomplishment for the both of them it would be.  My son is a talker when he's excited about something, but he keeps things to himself a lot.  Ask questions and I bet you'll get answers (at least to the stuff he can answer).  Is your son far from home? We are in FL and the cold weather was one of the things I was concerned with.  My son snowboards, but running and swimming in the cold...that's a whole other thing.

dellene-

My son is a big golf nut, so I'm sure they will have stuff to talk about, if they get to talk much.  My son workd for SeaWorld before he left.  He really liked it.  His "girlfriend" still works there. My son's dad lives in TX (near Houston), so I'm sure understanding the 'thin blood" thing. I hope your son likes the questions letter.  I sent one too today.  I found out from the girlfriend he had 2 wisdom teeth pulled and he never even mentioned it to me! He's had a fortune in dental work over the years (told him he had a car in his mouth, for what was spent). Hope nothing shifts as a result.

OMG....my son is in this division....i havent gotten any letters and now im scared...lol  thanks for the notice hopefully we will get one soon.

Hi my son is also a rescue swimmer and on the same ship/div as your son.  I havent received any letters so now im anxious to hear from him.   If you dont mind can you tell me what state yall live in - Im in Louisiana.

Florida

HI yes my son left on 12/13 and is on Ship 4 Div 806....I would love to hear from other moms going thru this cause im about to go crazy .... we got his box in 1 1/2 and the form letter the next week....it has been 2 1/2 weeks and nothing...no calls (which I dont expect just wish for) but no letters either...i was reading somewhere it may take 3/4 weeks....it is torture I just want to know he is ok...he is 18 and first time from home.  Nice to meet any moms, girlfriends, etc that their loved one is on this ship.  My son is doing Search and Rescue....Rescue Swimmer (SAR)...hope to hear from some you guys.  Thanks for listening

Hi Liz, I'm sure your son is fine.  Everything I read implies "no news is good news".  I would like to pass on another tip- if that picture on your profile is your sailor, you should probably put up another picture.  I guess the boys get crud for suff on here if they can be identified.  Anything we can do to make their time at bootcamp easier is a good thing. It looks like your box and form letter took a little longer than most of ours did, so maybe that's the reason your letters haven't arrived yet.  Hang tough (hard to do, I know). My son is 18 and fresh out of high school, too.  He has been away from home before, but never this long and never without communication.  I guess it's something we have to learn to live with.  We are all here for the same thing...to understand this new life our kids have chosen and to get support from each other as we adapt to this new reality they have brought to us.

Thank you will do...and im trying to hang in there...lol

Hi Liz,

From what I got from my son's letter, since he is in the group that arrived on 12/12 and your son's group got there on 12/13, it has been hard to get the 2nd group caught up with the 1st group. But they are managing he said.

We are from Iowa. I bet you start hearing from him soon. My son said the RTC's are very tough. They did get dessert on Christmas night, but some poor fellas got in trouble for talking at meal, so they all had to do PT for an hour before bedtime. He said he has lots to tell us but not so much time. It's a good idea to ask questions for him to answer. I made a separate sheet with some questions on it this time. He can just send it back to us. Sounds like things are pretty tough, but they are hanging in there.

You will be so happy and emotional when you hear from him. My son is 18 and just graduated in May. He is our youngest and was the only one still at home. This has been a real roller coaster of emotions for sure. Let us know when you hear from your boy. We're here for ya!
