Hi All...I thought I would start a discussion for everyone with a loved one starting Power Scool 8/18/11. My son is an EM and will be in Section 2.

My son told me that he has class on Dec 20th & could fly out later that evening. He opted not to fly out late since he wouldn't get into St Louis until 2300. He is going to fly home the next morning.

He told us that he will not get leave after Power School. We are planning on attending his graduation in Feb.

HI - this is my first visit to this group....wish I found it earlier.  My son is due to graduate on Feb 3...we too will travel down to enjoy the day...a quick2 night visit....so proud....this may seem silly...are there any 'traditional' type gifts given to the sailors upon graduation.  I want to honor the day in a special way...just don't know if there is some tradition in place that we should be aware of...thanks so much...I look forward to following this for the next few weeks and meeting many of you in Feb!!!

Lynn, My son said leave starts after class on 12/20/11. His class leader said they should be out of class by 1600. My son didn't want to cut it too close with his flight, so he is flying the next morning. Classes resume 1/4/12 so they have to be back on 1/3/12. I can't wait to see him again. I know it's only been 3 months, but it will be much longer periods after he gets to fleet.
yeah my bf said the same thing about getting christmas leave and grad leave...he is thinking of leaving on like the 22nd and getting back on the 27th that way doesnt use up as many leave days. he might also take 3 or 4 days of leave for grad in february just to go see his family since we are spending christmas with my family this year (i spent the last 2 christmas' with his family so it's only fair). after A school him and I went away for the whole 10 days so he used up all his days, and he really doesnt want to use his grad leave he would rather take the break in december. wants to let them accumulate a little more so that one day he can take some leave days, especially if we decide to get married in the next year (which is the tentitive plan)

I am not sure how accurate the information is, however, my son said that they aren't allowed to split their leave time.  Meaning some at Christmas and some at graduation.  It would be nice, but not an option.

that is just what my bf heard he could do. its a tentative plan but you could be right, they could not be allowed to split the days. Guess we will have to wait till december to find that out haha. Hopefully thats what he is allowed though. he already said if he has to choose one or the other he is choosing the christmas leave

Overall, my son likes Power School better than A School. He did say that the classes are beginning to get much harder. He had been on voluntary study hours up until last week...now he has 10-0 hrs/wk. He got a 3.2 on chem!2 test, but said there were 5 failures in his section...eek!

My ET son took Chem 2 this week too, said 12 out of the 35 in his section failed. :/

My son said that the prototype location assignments were posted at GC today. I'm not certain who he spoke to but the SLPO was supposed to post them today. Son said he got Charleston but no grad hold. Has anyone heard anything from your sailors?

My son is also graduating on feb 3rd.  Does anyone know how to find off base housing FURNISHED?  There are lots of apartments but can't find any that are furnished.  ANy help is appreciated.

BarbZ, Is your son staying in Charleston? I found a great discussion on the Nuke Mom's group about housing in Charleston...

My son & his friend have signed a lease at the Atlantic Palms. I added info re: his apt search on the "apartments in goose creek" discussion on the Nuke Moms page.
