Mine son did.  We dropped him off at the recruiter then picked him up at hotel for dinner last night.  We went to see him get sworn in this morning.  I guess they are in the air now.  My son told me they were taking off at 6:50.  Hope he calls me when they land.

mine texted me at 911 and stated he landed .

I got a call last night about 2:30 that he was in GL.  He said we'll get his box in 2 weeks.  And the'y're off...............

Do you live in the DFW area?  We live in Irving.

mine text us all the way until he could not do it anymore and he said he would not call.

but he did at 238 in the morning so about the same time.

yes flower mound work in Irving

is your son going right into the navy after boot camp or school?

He will go to A school (Charleston, SC) then the Nuke Program.  How about your son?

mine goes into the same program

I am guessing they leave to A school right away. Not sure how he will get his clothes that he left behind?

My SR leaves the next day (I think) for A school.  He packed 6 boxes (may have to trim that down) for us to send to him.  We are planning to carry his laptop with us to graduation---but I better check to make sure he can carry it with him.  Will do some more exploring on N4M tonight.

So much info on this site that I haven't found yet.

New Navy moms, the "Kid in a Box" should come in the next few days. It may take up to 10-14 days for the letter with his PIR information to get to you. It will also have his mailing address in it. Start writing letters now, keep them short. You will probably receive a letter from him in about 3 weeks. When you send those first few letters, try not to send more than 3 at a time. Number them so they will know which one to read first. In the first few weeks they will not have much free time to read them, some read them by the "night light" that is kept on in the berthing area. (Ask about the "night light" in one of the first letters, LOL.) Also, they can only write to you on Sunday for the first few weeks so don't expect a lot of letters at first. After that they can write a couple of times a week and you can receive them anywhere from Wednesday to Saturday. Mail is sent out on Monday the first few weeks and then more often after they have chosen a Mail Person for their Division. Welcome to the next great adventure in your SR's life. Be positive in all that you write to them. If they are complaining or down, lift them up with a "this will pass and you will do fine", "I know you can do this", etc. On a personal note, my sailors first three letters started out with "Boot Camp sucks", hahaha. He made it through and so will yours.

Thanks so much!

My son left on January 11th from Houston; however I live in Dallas. I already miss him a lot.

My son left on Jan 9th for basic and will going into the Nuke program as well.  I live in Mineral Wells, which is about 45 minute West of Ft. Worth. I am thankful a friend told me about Navyformoms.com I have learned a lot just in a couple of days of being on here! Blessings to your son and family as he has started his journey.
