MOTTO: “GUNG HO” was the Battle Cry of the Second Raider Battalion and the Motto of USS MAKIN ISLAND (CVE 93). “Gung Ho” translated means “Work Together”.

Being a Fast Attack momma I really knew nothing about the Makin Island, but doing a little research I found that their motto :GUNG HO” meant work together, I thought that since we as Molly moms would fail if we did not “Gung Ho” it would be a great battle cry for us.

So let’s GUNG HO into the NEW YEAR together. Since the size of the group is extra large, we will not be shipping till the middle of Feb. Since the timing will not be making any special holiday I thought that we could just make it a "All Things New" packing Whether it is a new snack or new game or something new to learn.

This is the wish list that was provided to me..... BE AWARE there might be a little special request coming soon....

They stay pretty strict with regulations so there will be no pillow cases shipped with this adoption....

Any other Ideas, PLEASE bring them on........I'm still waiting on a head count of men women marines

shipping date to follow but since such a large groug will not be till middle of February

I have the numbers for you.

These are round about numbers and of course not exact; they change all
the time.

744 Male             -59 = 685
225 Female   -44 = 181
Marines
1150 Male        -219 = 931

Can I ask for everyone doing bags to send me their count in a personal message so I don't miss the count in the conversation...thanks all

Also I am going to be "MAKIN"  a scrap/photo book to send to the Makin for them to remember that MAS is thinking about them. . If you would like to be apart of it, please send me any pictures or small notes you would like to share with them to ArmVymom@gmail.com. Please put scrapbook in subject line...thanks

Also they are in need of Children's books that they can use for the United in Reading program. This is where the parents read a book while being recorded and then send the DVD and book to the child....what a get way to be a parent while away.

I'm thinking it would be cool if we could make them planks from MAS out of like Popsicle sticks

I have a get little birdie visit me last night with a great idea.....So what do you think if I put out the challenge to us one box Mommas to cover all the girls in this adoption............I know that we are POWER HOUSES and can do with no problem......So what do you think !!!!!! shall us ONE BOX WONDERS ...GUNG HO on the GIRLS.............let me know what you are think......lets show them big old packing parties how we do it..........we can do bags or just boxes for then to share ..............what do you all say

I like ...I like.....

That would be SOOO special!  We always take care of our ladies!!!

This mom is new to the Adopt A Sailor project but am ready to jump in.  I have enlisted a few ladies at church to help me fill bags with goodies and our children's group will decorate the bags next week.

I think I will be able to prepare 30 or so bags with goodies and am looking forward to the fun!!!!  Since this is my first time with this kind of project, I will be happy to hear from any of you "experienced" moms with any advice.  I am in Tennessee and won't be part of a packing party.  I have sent individual boxes in the past to my surrogate son Marine so I already have the USPS boxes and customs labels and am ready to hit the ground.

One of the ladies at my church and her daughter want to start making pillowcases too, so we are going to work on that.

I'm excited to help!!!!!  My sailor is in Prototype currently and I just hope that one day he receives a goody bag while he is deployed.

Oh WELCOME TN please go to the new mom discussion and contact Pat she will get you on a wonderful start, but PLEASE feel free to ask all the questions you have. Also remember a pcking party does not have to be big, it can be a few family and friends. The  bags don't have to be filled to the top, I'm a ego girl and the idea of bags for each one came up so i thought to decorate paper bags like I did for kids when in school would be fun.

PS. I also hope your sailor receives a goody bag to .....so please keep us posted on him ........we love to live through each others children......lol...huggs and WELCOME

WELCOME TN ~~ Gosh it sounds like your already experienced in this :) oh boy sister prototype --whoosh make sure your sending that son of ours some stress relief cards and boxes too !!   ( ok so I have a soft spot in my heart for what our nukes go threw in their school adventures)  I KNOW they get stressed beyond stressed ( and for good reason) so make sure that little lovebug gets some virtual hugs from us ok ??

Also, welcome!  And, I'm another nuke mom if you ever need to talk.  Our sailor had his PIR on 08-08-08, which is supposed to be good luck in China.  So far, it's been good luck in our world, too.  Hugs

I'm a NUKE mom too.  I probably know you all from the Facebook page.

My son is the one who had the ankle surgery.  He's hopefully going to be allowed to continue on to prototype eventually, fingers crossed.

Hi Lauren,

I just emailed Diane and let her know that Colorado is on board for sure and worked out a delay so we will pack on Feb. 4.

We have done individual for a few years now, so we are going to continue with the USS Mackin.  I was hesitant at first, but have been assured that we can do this.  Please show that Colorado has all of the toothbrushes and toothpastes.  We will also be sending a deck of cards for everyone of them compliments of our casinos in Black Hawk, CO.

We are also working with another recruiting office and hope to hold a card making party there in either Jan or Feb with the intention of including a handmade card for every bag we send.

Hopefully with all the amazing post that are flying through this room you will see this and can update your board.

Thank you so much for taking this on...you are truly a wonderful Molly Momma.

Are you doing fabric bags?  If so, what size fabric?  I have some odd cuts from a company that are not sized right for pillowcases.

Carol being a "green girl" I was going with brown paper, but I had picked up something a little fancy paper bag for the girls ......I think Fabric bags are "green" too and a little fancy for the girls so I think that would be cool.....go for it
