OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

SON LEAVING MONDAY FOR BOOTCAMP
My son leaves for bootcamp on Monday. He was originally scheduled for December 20th. Before Christmas, but close enough that we could have had an early Christmas and it would have felt like it. We were only told a couple weeks ago that they would be moving up the date and then only yesterday that it would be Monday. I keep crying like a little baby. It seems so silly because it isn't like he'll be gone forever. My husband and younger son think I'm silly for crying, but I can't seem to help myself. Are there any other mothers out there struggling with this?
They say it's empty nest, but I still have my younger son around. I guess I just worry how my older son will handle bootcamp. He made this choice all on his own and we support him completely and are extremely proud of him. He keeps counting down the days and telling me to see my reaction I think. I have tried not to cry around him even though he knows I will come Monday.
I would appreciate hearing from any mothers who have been there or are there now.

Our SR called on the last day of the 3rd week for only 5 minutes. he said not all got to call from his division (059). He did say not all the Sr's are getting mail. He is going to seek them out somehow and let me know so I can get letters to them. If there are too many for me, anyone want to help with this? He also said that the 4th week has offered more fun and less frantic a schedule. More GOOD STUFF, as he put it! I love that he has to iron everyday. "Waste of time" when at home.Never wanted to learn.

My son is in 057. I also asked him to let me know about kids not getting mail but he has not told me of any. I would be glad to write to some of the kids. I missed my son's call yesterday but my husband was here and spoke with him. My parents and I both got letters today. He said he was ironing socks and shining shoes on Christmas Day. He said it was just another day in paradise. He said he had lots of new friends & named several states his new friends were from. I wish he had time to write more as I really enjoy his letters! I try to write every couple of days. His letters take 4 to 5 days to get here. I wonder if it takes that long for my letters to get to him!

My son is in division 059 as well and I received his call last week. I think it did us both some good to talk to on another. I was so happy to hear from him so I think he can now push forward and do what it takes to get it done.

My son leaves in February, I have already began to worry about bootcamp.-do send a phone card? Do you send things with them.

My daughter said the most important thing is to not let them get to you.. now after A school and in Norfolk she really misses bootcamp and the close friends she made there. Its not easy but they are there to make you a sailor. To get you ready to do a job. Remember it and appreciate it and its really not that bad. She didnt regret one thing, except the gas chamber.

Is it possible that the bunkmate was ASMO'd? That stands for Assignment Memorandum Orders. Apparently it's typically issued in boot camp where a recruit has to repeat training because of poor performance or not meeting the standard.
To "icecold326", that's so great that you were able to speak with your son. Mine called my cell phone a few days ago and I missed the call! I'm still so aggravated. I'm hoping he'll get another opportunity soon. I miss him so much.

I think that's what happened to the guy. Idk how many are left in our Div now. My son has only called one time and I wasn't home. I am hoping for a call soon. Doyou think they can get Asmo'd for not passing an inspection too?

Deanna AZMO means that the recruit was set back for one reason or the other most times the are AZMO due to not passing a test. So sadly the recruits graduation date is set back & will not graduate boot camp their original date set. My daughter just graduated 12/29, so please feel free to ask me any questions.

Thanks for the info. Also I was wondering if they can get Azmo for failing an inspection. My son is a Section leader and under the microscope so to speak. That is his main concern at this point. He will pass all of the physical stuff and probably any written tests etc. so inspections are the main concern.

Deanna, yes a recruit can get ASMO'd if he/she fails an inspection more than once in a phase.

I have been there before, last July. My son left (my 2nd also). It was very very hard, but he has since graduated and is now in Sub School and is having the best time. He loves what he is doing and they all are having a great time together on and off base. From what I hear the boot camp isn't that bad and the food is pretty good. It is alot of PT for the most part. Once you start getting letters, they will probably come 1x per week. Just wait until you see him the day of graduation in his dress whites, it will be one of the best days of your life and all your worries now will seem small. You will be so proud of him! Good Luck!
