HT-ATF? Any info helps
My finace says he's an HT ATF what does that mean? I know he'll be going to C school, does anyone have any idea where? Or how long it is? I assume he can take leave between A and C School?
Will his rank increase again after C school? Does his job description change?
Any info is helpful, Thanks guys! :]

HT is hull tech... trying to get my HT sailor to shed some light on the ATF part. C schools are all over the country depending on specialties.
Don't assume the Navy will give anyone time off for anything. My son's HT A school took about 3 months. He went straight to his assigned ship after it.
Rank doesn't automatically increase. They have to pass tests and be approved by a "board" for that.
Job descriptions (rate) goes up with rank or passing other tests. Mine went from HTFR (Hull Tech Fire Recruit) out of basic training to HTFN, as he went up in rank or time in service . He is now a HT2(SW) and an E5. The Navy is the only branch that I know of that has rate in addition to their ranks. I am a prior AF spouse and the Navy "grades" are quite confusing.

My son is HT, in GL right now. He is also ATF HT, at least on his orders. He is now FA fireman apprentice and an E2. I don't know much more than that. It looks like he'd go to C school, burni don't know where! He's only a week into A school so far.
I do hope he can come home for Christmas. He said something about working at the local recruiter's office, too. -

By the way, ATF-HT means Advanced Technical Field Hull Maintainance Technician. I am going to text my son and ask him to give me some more info, if he can!

Thanks for the info guys! It's so hard to find anything about ATF specifically. Even harder to get it form the sailors themselves. Haha
Elane - do you remember where your sailor went for C school? Or how long the C school training took? You said your sailor was immediately assigned to his ship after A school, so did he complete his first duty station and then go to C school afterwards?
Sheila - My sailor should be finishing A school the beginning of December. He's also an E-2, I'm so proud of him! <3 It was fairly easy to find info about his A school, but C school is proving elusive. Hahaa
Apparently the base for A school "stands down" over Christmas so sailors can usually go home for a while. I'm hoping this is the case, so he can be home for the holidays! :]
Mine has mentioned working for the Recruiters as well, apparently he gets extra days added to his leave for doing so. He said he signed up for it, so here's hoping! Thanks again ladies!

sorry mine did not go to C school. he went from Basic training to BECC which was part of his A school in Great Lakes. he PIR'd in October and I think he got some time off at Christmas..before finishing A school in March and reporting directly to a ship in the San Diego area. He's been in over 4 years now and is trying to get some training a different version of his field. btw HT's specialize in welding.

My son did come home during the Christmas 'stand-down'. It was do great to meet him @ the airport with our signs! It went too fast! He doesn't know much about C school yet - he thinks he may bd sent to his ship first, and then C school later. He should be done in late February. I will let you know!

My Husband Is at RTC right now but his rate is HT-ATF. I am really curious as to how our family life will be. My daughter is 5 months now and i just wanted to ask people with experience because our recruiters can't tell me much.
