There's this myth going around that it's not allowed for the recruits to be cursed at. That's bullhooey. My son wrote that his commanding officers favorite thing to do is to call them "dickf***"!

They could certainly get the point across without using foul language.    We spend all of our children's lives teaching them values and respect.    I understand full well that they need to breakdown the psyche of the recruits and prepare them for   military life.    I love and respect my country very much.   I just hope that my recruit has made the right choice.  May god bless all of them and watch over them and protect them.

Yes they do swear at the kids in bootcamp, but not all RDC's swear.  I am retired Navy and one of my last assignments was a RDC. I am also a Navy   Mom.  My son joined 3 years ago and my daughter is leaving in 14 days.  Your children are fine. I am sure they have heard all of those words before in school.  Like one of the mothers pointed out...it is not a "club" it is the military.

Hallejuah these men and women are now G.I. (government issue) if they can't take some cussing and yellling then they should have never went to the military, is it nice NO is it part of their lives now YES. I think as moms we would prefer to think they were away at college or summer camp but they aren't and if everyone thinks Navy bootcamp is bad be glad they didn't choose to be Marines or in the Army. We try all their lives to protect them and make everything as easy as we can for our children but they are now adults and we as moms may not approve of the methods used in bootcamp but so is life. If they weren't cussers they won't cuss, if they weren't thiefs they won't steal. My point is we did our jobs now its time for the military to do theirs. Our children are grown and they made their choices now we have to live with them like it or not its now time for us to let go like it or not. If your recruit doesn't like it or doesn't want to be there well they can get out now while the gettings easy otherwise welcome to the Navy mom's.

I just think it's funny- all the propoganda the military puts out when the reality is so different! I mean seriously, do they think we can't handle our children being yelled at? We all kn ow WHY they do it, so why deny it?

Cheers,

Leslie

My sailor never mentioned actually swearing at them during boot camp, but in one letter he thanked his dad for riding his A$$ because the RDCs had nothing on his "old man". In fact, he was getting yelled at and was laughing on the inside thinking about that. Also, when we were leaving our son after liberty on PIR day, one of the RDCs was leaving base as well. Traffic was horrific, and the the RDC was on a motorcycle. He tried to edge out in front of a guy driving a minivan, and the driver rolled down the window and said something to him about waiting his turn. RDC says "hey, I don't have a lot of time...I'm stuck here teaching your damn kids". Thought it was super low class, but hey...what can you do but shrug your shoulders and know you are better than that asshat.
