They know he wont be able to be there right away. He can show his ID after PIR. I wish I had stayed there instead of the Marriot, it would of been so much cheaper. I didnt know then that they would not be able to spend the night so I got a bigger room at the Marriot. It wasnt necessary and was pricey. The one thing that did save us some money was flying into Milwaukee instead of Chicago.
Brought in 2012 working night shift and with some little ones. Wishing all A Happy New Year. We can't wait to see our grad 2/10/2012.
PIR division 805. We're trying to book our flights. Should we plan to depart 1:30p on Sunday or depart early on Monday? We want to spend as much time possible with our son that weekend. Needing to finalize our flight plans soon. Any suggestions.
You should have him to yourselves until 8pm. He may want to get back a little earlier to get ready for Monday morning, even though the week will start out slow for them. Sunday will be difficult for both of you, but I know every minute will count. I think Sunday early evening would be good.
sjtina,
Thanks for your response.
Hello everyone!! I wanted to stop by here and introduce myself. My son graduated 11/23 and is currently in preBUD/S at Great Lakes. If I can help in any way or answer any questions, please let me know. I also live an hour away from Great Lakes so am up to date with any weather issues. I hope this next month flies by for you ladies!!!!
Any idea how long your son has until he leaves for BUDS? How do they determine who gets to go?
Jk's Family...I would advise taking an early flight Monday. Don't forget if you leave Sunday evening, you have to be at the airport in time to return the rental car, 1 1/2 hr before flight anyway, give yourself time to travel to the airport, and spend time that day packing. We spent all that time instead with our son----plenty of time to get packed after he had returned to base. So if staying Sun. night is an option...DO IT!
Roxiegirl,
Thanks for your input. We are staying Sunday night and departing early Monday. We don't want to miss a minute of time with our son.
=D
Question: Will our guys have a Hell Week while in bootcamp? If so, about what week?
Thanks,
JK's family.....Boot camp is different for SEAL candidates than for other divisions in that their physical and mental training begins here. And since these guys come in already in great physical shape, their IT's (intensive training for punishment) tends to be more of the mental kind, (the bird watching, staring at walls, etc.). Their RDC's know that they like getting extra PT and it's not so much of a punishment to them. But they do not have a Hell Week like they will in BUD/S. There is a week (near the end of training, I believe) for all the divisions where there are more than the usual amount of inspections, tests, etc. and this is commonly referred to as Hell Week. I will verify this with my son and ask him if he remembers which week this took place.
For those of you worried about how your sons are handling the mental challenges, after PIR my son told me that he LOVED his RDC's. Yes, they were tough on them. He still talks about them and how much he learned and how much he respected them. He said the worst days were the P days in the very beginning.
