MOTTO: “GUNG HO” was the Battle Cry of the Second Raider Battalion and the Motto of USS MAKIN ISLAND (CVE 93). “Gung Ho” translated means “Work Together”.
Being a Fast Attack momma I really knew nothing about the Makin Island, but doing a little research I found that their motto :GUNG HO” meant work together, I thought that since we as Molly moms would fail if we did not “Gung Ho” it would be a great battle cry for us.
So let’s GUNG HO into the NEW YEAR together. Since the size of the group is extra large, we will not be shipping till the middle of Feb. Since the timing will not be making any special holiday I thought that we could just make it a "All Things New" packing Whether it is a new snack or new game or something new to learn.
This is the wish list that was provided to me..... BE AWARE there might be a little special request coming soon....
They stay pretty strict with regulations so there will be no pillow cases shipped with this adoption....
Any other Ideas, PLEASE bring them on........I'm still waiting on a head count of men women marines
shipping date to follow but since such a large groug will not be till middle of February
I have the numbers for you.
These are round about numbers and of course not exact; they change all
the time.

I hope you don't mind, I had a look. I did notice that it says they are marines and soldiers. It should probably say marines and SAILORS.
I think that is awesome to put the word out to couponers who do magic to get a lot of those items for free. I love how she included coupons available for some of the items on the list.
I do have one question for anyone who can answer it: We should not be getting the very inexpensive disposable razors, correct? I don't remember if it was on here, or where, but I read that the lower quality, less expensive ones really tear up their faces and we know what they do to our legs.
Kim, please tell your niece thank you for helping out like that.
maybe just use deployed troops...because I think that most civilians use the word soldiers don't they.
as for the razors, my rule of thumb is I won't send anything that I would not use and since I'm lazy and don't shave much, I have to use the good ones.
BIG thanks for sharing the link Kim
I have spoken to your niece via fb, Monika, sweet gal.....
chris amazing, amazing, I had to pick my bottom lip off the floor! 2170...HOLY CAT NIP!!!!-
the makin will NEVER forget MAS!!!!!!!
The sewing has begun in Colorado and Washington is pitching in too. Here is Sewing Party #1 and Sewing Party # 2 happens next Saturday. In addition to the Sewing Parties we have Navy and Marine mommas and lots of friends sewing too. Together we will fill 2170 Colorado LOVE Bags with a toothbrush, toothpaste, a deck of cards and a handmade thank you card one for each Sailor and Marine aboard the USS Makin Island. With everything that is being done by other states and our wonderful one box mommas, the maiden voyage of this ship will be flooded with LOVE and encouragement. Here is a picture of what we did today.....
Wow, look at everyone go! Great tips and a lot of creativity here...love it! CO you are really rock'n it! Say hi to everyone...wouldn't it be great if we could all be everywhere...LOL! Maybe one day a traveling bus of moms.
So Lauren, thanks for taking on this BIG adoption. It's a lot of work and juggling but super FUN at the same time...doing a great job!
Looking forward to the packing party Feb. 18th. Still time for everyone to join in our sunny and warm weather (sorry...really am...LOL!)
WOW WOW WOW (love the blog) how totally sweet of her Kim, and Chris I was thinking about these little bags --I think afterwards they can use these as something, so it has double duty :)
this adoption is letting me meet ~Lauren, Pat & Kim F for the very first time.....I am jumping up & down...yipppeee .....thanks to the "MAKIN" for MAKIN this possible......☺♥
I WANNNAAAA COMMMEEEE TOOOOOOO! (That is my whining voice in case you couldn't tell - lol) Actually I think I will have a pity party that day with special invites to all others stuck up north!
Here's a pic of our 3-6 grade kiddoes at church after they filled the bags. I'm inserting a copy of this pic in each box of goody bags that I ship. The bags came out a little fat because of the items in them, so it's going to take 3 boxes!!!
The kids had a ball decorating and then filling the bags. Several wrote individual notes to the recipients. Love seeing young people get excited about supporting our military. One of the girls in the pic has a brother in the Army and a sister in the Air Force.
That is TOTALLY AWESOME. Definately one for the scrapbook too.
REALLY AWESOME!!! Can we use the picture on FB too? Love these kiddos - great job!
Oh how cute!! You kids are wonderful!!!
