MOTTO: “GUNG HO” was the Battle Cry of the Second Raider Battalion and the Motto of USS MAKIN ISLAND (CVE 93). “Gung Ho” translated means “Work Together”.

Being a Fast Attack momma I really knew nothing about the Makin Island, but doing a little research I found that their motto :GUNG HO” meant work together, I thought that since we as Molly moms would fail if we did not “Gung Ho” it would be a great battle cry for us.

So let’s GUNG HO into the NEW YEAR together. Since the size of the group is extra large, we will not be shipping till the middle of Feb. Since the timing will not be making any special holiday I thought that we could just make it a "All Things New" packing Whether it is a new snack or new game or something new to learn.

This is the wish list that was provided to me..... BE AWARE there might be a little special request coming soon....

They stay pretty strict with regulations so there will be no pillow cases shipped with this adoption....

Any other Ideas, PLEASE bring them on........I'm still waiting on a head count of men women marines

shipping date to follow but since such a large groug will not be till middle of February

I have the numbers for you.

These are round about numbers and of course not exact; they change all
the time.

Also I am going to be "MAKIN"  a scrap/photo book to send to the Makin for them to remember that MAS is thinking about them. . If you would like to be apart of it, please send me any pictures or small notes you would like to share with them to ArmVymom@gmail.com. Please put scrapbook in subject line...thanks

Picked up 30 lip balms from my Avon lady--she sold them to me for 50 cents. Hear the gum drive is still going on at TMS, and they will have more than the 300 packs I already got last Friday.  My scout group is not meeting now until Feb. 12th, but will have bags decorated and some goodies to go in them.

Wow, everyone,  THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!  I think everyone on the ship will get a goodie bag at the rate it's pumping up with GUNG HO!

LIKE!

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING PICTURE ~~

OH I just love love it

and Carol HOLY HECK your rocking this ----can you believe the Makin is going to get a bag for each on board ( I agree at this rate we are going )   ha ha ha tra la la la la

AND

Diane booked mine and my new veteran Colton's ticket to Tampa ---oh my oh my good gravy

My son is on the Makin so we are super excited to be a part of this one.  I have approximately 4 large priority mail boxes filled with puzzle books, toiletries, snacks, etc.

Ok everyone I have to say ....life came all at once so had to drop back and punt............I have to say that you guys are REALLY AWESOME....I love the pictures...and when you think aobut all the love everyone is getting ready to send It really is something special !!!!! I have not heard from the Makin in a few days so they much be busy working.......darn Navy !!..I have copied the pictures please send more ...they are going to love seeing all..

I have to say the I went to the Libary to tutor this week and the Library had a bunch of children's book on sale so I have a box of books ready to the United in Reading program....I just love that program ....

oh yeah !!!! I just love the fabric bags....

Hello all!  My library sells books that are being rotated out of circulation on a regular basis, and for a very cheap price.

There are a lot of children's books but I didn't purchase any because they have the library stickers and IDs on them.  Is the Makin looking for only new books or will the used books work as well?  I would try to get all of the stickers off of them but I'm not sure of the success rate.

great question Laura and I asked it for you, I was blessed that the books I found at the libary were donated and didn't have any stamps or stickers on them ..I'll let you all know ASAP

ok I have heard from our dear Makin.....the children's books don't have to be new. So I would say that a good rule of thumb would be is it something you would buy for your own. and it will be greatly appreciated. My contact expressed that he has done this with his children and it helps make him feel he is still a big part of their life while he is away. ......imagine oh it makes the children feel, to receive a book from mommy or daddy and a DVD with them reading the book to them..........wow

Where is the address?  I can't find it anywhere.  We have 4 boxes ready to go.

It doesn't look like it's been posted yet Donna.  This month's shipping isn't happening until mid-February.  When it is posted it will be in the "MAS We Ship Love" group and you will need to be a member to see the address.

Donna, I looked and you are not a member of "MAS We Ship Love" yet. Go request to join and I'll approve it. Then when Lauren posts the address, you will have access to it! We do it this way to give a little security for our contact person by not having their address out where everybody can see it.
