Anyone else have a loved one on Ship 9, Div. 087?  My son is going to Nuke School in Charleston following PIR.  Like so many of you, I am counting down the days until March 16!!  Hope to see you there:)

LittleTurtle- I mentioned what you shared about your son in my last letter I wrote to my son.  I wanted to see if he knew "TN" :)  I don't know if my son has a nickname yet, but he is from Kentucky. :)

Kitty that is too funny!!! I had heard they like to pick on the country boys a little. They ask them about going hunting and all that stuff but they do like them. I so hope all ours know each other!!!

Yay Candy! Glad for you...

Hello!  My son is on Ship 9, Div. 087.  He will go to Mississippi after basic.  We are from St. Louis.  Any other Missouri Moms?

Hey Jeana! We are from Florida, but my son is also on Ship 9/Div 87. He is going to Pensacola after BC.

@ minordetails42 I received a letter on Wednesday and he sounded pretty good.  He is 19, and has never been away from home. Pretty scary stuff for him (and us)... :)  Will you be at graduation?  We will be there, but it's only a 5 hour drive for us.  A bit longer for you.

Our son is 22, and he has traveled with friends, so he's OK. Your son probably knows mine. He likes to talk and is great with people. Not sure how to tell you his name without compromising security rules, but he could take him under his wing.

We will be at graduation on 3/16. We are flying up the day before PIR, and staying till Monday afternoon to enjoy Chicago a little. Our ship/division is looking into getting ribbons for graduation so we'll be able to spot each other. But also, there is a Meet and Greet the evening before so we can see each other in person:)

I'm going to look for you in the Main Room chat on this site...

Minor, my son likes to talk too. I wounder how they did when they couldn't talk!!! The poor guys who are shy don't stand a chance with these two!!! lol   I couldn't wait for him to talk. When he started he never stopped even in his sleep! What about your son, does he talk in his sleep? He has been known to scream LOUD. When I'd go wake him up he'd ask what I was doing waking him up!!!  lol

LOL Probably keeping quiet will be his greatest test. And, yes, he talks/yells in his sleep too, but only when he's stressed out. I wonder how that's going for him in boot camp??!!

Hi everyone.  It sounds like we all got our first letter and now wait inpatiently for a call.  My son's girlfriend got a letter today too.  It's such a great feeling to know they can finally share their experiences with us even if it's only by letter.  My son said he's trying to stay "under the radar" of the RDC's. I never had to yell at him, just that "mom look" was enough so I'm sure this is all new to him.  He sounds like he's handling it well.  He is very disciplined (not sure where he got that from) LOL.

I'm saying a little prayer tonite for phone calls.  We need them and so do our SRs.  Oh, and I need to ask him if he got a speeding ticket before he left MEPS!!!

My son is trying to do the same,"staying under the radar"!  He also mentioned, "The best advice I am putting to use is following directions and keeping my mouth shut." Lol

I am so proud of all of these SRs!  I teach third grade and I let them know what I am thinking about every morning we look at our flag.

Robin- I had my class write letters to some future sailors!  I know this was mentioned on another thread somewhere.  Some turned out so cute.  I am trying to figure out a way to go about sending them.  I don't want to put my SR on the spot, but I think I have it figured out.

Here is part of one letter-

Dear Future Sailor,

Hi! my name is Will.  We are learning about the Preamble.  My favorite line in the Preamble is "Provide for the common defense."  Every time I say that line I think of the military....So, stay fit, stay brave, and stay strong.

You should see the pictures they drew of ships, tanks, planes, etc.  :)

Kitty, what a wonderful idea with the letters.  I will mention it to a teacher friend of mine.  Why don't you mention it to the veteran mom's on the Boot Camp Group.  I'm sure they will now how to send them.  My son sounded strong in his letter, like yours, which reassures me that he is where he should be:)

I'm so excited about PIR and can't wait for March 16!!  Have you made your travel plans yet?  I think some of the moms here are interested in ordering ribbons from Lala.  Do you plan to go to either of the Meet & Greets?
