My son leaves for BC April 12th. Anybody else have a son or daughter leaving at the same time? With my work schedule, I'm trying to figure the estimated PIR date. He is my only child and we are very close. Not sure how I'm going to like not physically talking to him and since he is a horrible letter writer, I'm not holding my breath that I'll hear from him oftern. Going to be a big adjustment for this mom. And he is getting married in 3 weeks. WOW to 2012 that's for sure.

My husband leaves April 16th. He will PIR sometime on or after June 8th, depending on when his 8 weeks officially starts. You should join DEP- Leaving in April http://www.navyformoms.com/group/leavinforbootcampinapril There are some very friendly and informative moms on there. Definately a lot on your plate with a wedding and then BC, but it's good he's doing it before he goes, will make life easier with medical coverage paperwork and moving his lady to A School when he goes = ) What is your son going in for?
He is doing Master at Arms and hopefully his A school close to home...TEXAS! He is very excited. It will be very hard not to be able to talk to him whenever I want but plan on getting the snail mail going!
Hey Paula. Figure an 8 week average from the time they get to Great Lakes until PIR. It could be a week less or a week more - just depends - but 8 weeks is the average time. PIR ceremonies will typically take place on Fridays unless that is a holiday and then it will be held on Thursday. Typically the recruits will have Friday after PIR to spend with family and then will leave the next morning to fly to their A schools. You can go and meet the bus at the airport and hang out with them there until their flight leaves if you want to. Recruits that are going to A school in Great Lakes will usually get to spend more of the weekend with family but will have to be back to base each evening at a specific time (9:00 or 10:00 I think). Of course since it's the Navy - nothing is written in stone. :)
Also about the letter writing. I didn't expect to get many letters from my son either. He is not a letter writer. I was really surprised that I got one each week from the time they could start writing and there were a couple weeks where I got 2! They weren't long but they were the best letters ever. So, don't count him out on the writing. I think when that is the only form of communication they have they don't take it for granted so much.
Congratulations on having a soon to be Navy bound son and on the upcoming wedding - how exciting!!
He thinks he will have the weekend after PIR but like I told him, you won't know until you get there. I know his A-school is either Texas or Georgia (hopefully Texas) so I hope we can spend sometime with him. I've been tempted to lock-in air fare and pay for extra transfer different date but don't know if I should. He say he doesn't want to write but he won't be able to not tell us what is going on at BC. I plan on writing him everyday. Very proud of him that's for sure.
My suggestion is to not book anything until you get his form letter telling you his grad date. I know it's cheaper the earlier you book, but if you have to pay transfer fees anyway you end up not really saving anything. Most vet moms here will tell you the same thing. But you have to do whatever you feel most comfortable with. And I still think you are going to get much more mail than you expect. :) Now that my son has just finished up A school and has moved on to his 1st duty station I miss getting the mail from him. As soon as he didn't have to write anymore and could call me the letters stopped. I do have to admit that I was a little jealous of some of the moms in my son's division at BC - they seemed to get lots of letters - then I realized that most of them had daughters - I think girls have an easier time writing letters than boys do. Oh well.
Sounds like all of our treasures will be there together. My son (baby) leaves Louisiana on the 10th. We are in full swing of preparations (packing; parties and farewells). I think we are all still in shock that he is doing this. He was the homebody of the family, then out of the blue, made his announcement and has done all he can to get his recruit move his deployment date up and up..... we went from June to departure in three weeks! ugggh. They will be fine. They will all return stronger, healthier, prouder of themselves than we can ever be for them adults. God bless all of you and I pray for strength for everyone. Good luck all!
Well Star, our sons should be there at the same time then! I"m not sure how it all works but according to my son, he thinks all those that come in this week will start week 1, day 1 together. He is hoping Monday. Hope he is correct, it means he gets finished that much sooner. We've had a weekend of parties and farewells, but Thursday will be hard. He is newly married too, so at least I'll have my new daughter-n-law to obsess over. LOL
Morning Paula. I have no clue how all this stuff works. I guess we will find out if our sons are together when we find out our PIR dates. At least we'll know if they all graduate together. Only time will tell if they are all on the same ship/division/ or however they group them. LOL
WOW, a newly wed heading out to sea. Now that has got to be hard. At least with my son, he is single with only dog. Now granted the dog goes into grieving when he isn't around and it will be hard to assure her health while he is gone, but he plans to send for her, as soon as he can. We'll see how that goes. And yes, you now have a new daughter in law to fill the gap; and ya'll can share gaps in phone calls and letters too.
I wish you and your family much strength. I have started a facebook page for my son, if you'd like to drop in, or my personal email address is mygalstar@yahoo.com.

My son leaves for boot camp on April 9. Good luck to everyone!
Good Morning Cab!
Today is your day. Good luck. Where is your son coming from? It's odd to me, how different recruiters have different departure days. A little confusing, but I'm sure they have their system down pat.
Today must be hard for you and your family, but stand strong and stand proud. I have started a facebook page for my son, if you'd like to dro in, or my personal address is mygalstar@yahoo.com, if you need a shoulder to cry on.
Hugs Honey........be proud!

AWWW EJ... I'm sorry to hear of your sadness. Try to find the strength in you raising an amazing young man and honor in the fact he has chosen to serve our country and will be molded into the finest young man type of our nation. We are definitely honored!
Yes not talking to him for a few months will be very hard for all of us; but know that its not because they are on the other end just sitting around playing video games or ignoring us; they are staying extremely busy becoming the young man, we as parents will glow over when they walk down that isle for PIR.
My son leaves at 2 tomorrow afternoon, and we have all gathered for four days now, in celebration of his departure. I have an amazing family core.
Stay strong and be so so proud. Stay busy - your son will be.
Hugs!
