I have seen on other sections of this site people who have been here before with other kids making comments on hotels and such. I would feel better speaking with some of them... I'm not in that boat we have a new camper we are bringing with us thank god.... Good luck...

I just booked the hotel with Navy Lodge, it is 65.00, no taxes, a night with a small frig and microwave, 2 queen beds and pet friendly.  They said it is only 1 1/2 mile from the base.  We are all eligible to stay there because our sons/daughters are recruits and graduating RTC.    If interested the phone number is 1-800 NAVY INN.

I booked at the Ramada, and the reviews I am seeing are mixed, hopefully it wont be too bad, it just for 4 nights, since Jacob should have 3 days of Liberty according to recruiter.

I had been considering the Ramada also, so went ahead and booked. We like to have a hotel with a suite since we have a teenage son still at home.  It makes things easier when he and I need to dress or shower.  I'm with you, hopefully it won't be too bad!  I mean, if it was too bad, I wouldn't think they would put it in the brochure.

That's true.

Thanks...I checked the Navy Lodge out online.  Do you know if they have wireless?  I can't find it on the website.

I didn't ask them about if they had wireless.  I know a shuttle is available to base for a small fee she said

They have WI-Fi...but they charge for it.

I am so excited to be part of this website, but it's going to take a while for me to figure all of it out.  My daughter has been placed in Ship 02 Division 922.  I don't know much about it and would appreciate learning what anyone else knows about it.  I got the form letter with a brief note from her on the back.  It was so good to hear something from her.  The hardest part is not being able to talk to her.  Thanks to everyone for listening. It helps to know that there are other moms with the same feelings as me.

Welcome ML :)  Is this your first child in military?  Do any of you know at what point we find out if our kids are going directly to A school or will have leave before assignment?

Jacob is going to aircrew training in Pensacola after bc, the recruiter said he will have 3 days of liberty, fri, sat, sun.  Jacob says in his letter that he lied about some things, he didn't give details, other than his first check will only be about $200.

If his recruiter was talking about his gross check, he wasn't lieing.  What he failed to mention is that they deduct for all the "personal" items that they "provide" for them, such as tennis shoes, toiletries, and I'm not sure what else.  That does leave their net check very small.  As to the 3 days liberty, I've not seen ANYBODY say their SR had that much liberty, especially if they weren't staying at GL.  Those staying at GL sometimes have during the day Liberty on Saturday and Sunday, but those shipping out almost all leave on Saturday sometime.
