For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Care Package
My daughter left 2-17-12 and scheduled to graduate on 3-16-12. She wrote me a letter asking me to send her 20.00, makeup, hair pins, razors, etc. I sent her the everything except the 20.00 because she has money in her account and I didn't know they could receive money through the mail. Has any other parent has this request?

Unless things have changed since a year ago they are not allowed care packages. They can receive letters, cards (and not the musical kind), pictures, newspaper clippings, etc but not packages. In her letter, she said she could get a box? I have never heard of anyone at bootcamp getting a box. Have you found the RTC (Recruit Training Command) Facebook page? It is a most awesome page and they are so good at answering questions. https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand Here's the address for the page. I didn't find N4M or the RTC Facebook page till my son was half way through bc. It was a godsend!

If the recruit requests items for PIR then it is most lkely that they have asked their RDC's and gotten approval.
We have seen items such as Contacts with a travel size solution, makeup, hair straighteners for pictures and PIR. ONLY send IF your recruit specifically asks for them. Write what is inside on the outside of the package. They will have to open it in front of their RDC. These items will be stored until they are allowed to use them. I would place any liquid items in a ziploc baggie as well.
As far as money...while I think they could receive it, it is probably not the best idea. I am not sure why she requested money. It is the first time I have heard of a recruit doing so on the year I have been on the PIR groups helping out.
They are issued a NEX card with approx $150.00 on it for the duration of BC to purchase necessities...and they prefer them to use that.

The only kind of "money" I believe they're allowed to recieve is phone cards so they can call home. But they are able to buy those at the NEX there where they are. The RDC's take them there on occassion to buy personal items etc. When I sent my husband off, the recruiter told me to send him $50 in cash. I sent that with him and he kept it with him. But I"m not sure you can actually send money.
The best thing to do (because they're always changing rules) is to call her recruiter and ask him to find out. If he "knows" I would still ask him to confirm. He has direct access to her RDC's and can call them. While my husband was gone, I had a HUGE emergency with my pregnancy and his recruiter was able to call the RDC's directly and talk with my husband about what was going on. So I would just ask him to call and make sure, before you send money. Depending on the RDC's, recruits can get into trouble (extra PT, etc) if they get something in the mail they shouldn't have. Not all RDC's are like that tho!

You can send her the cash to buy these items for PIR, but she cant get care packages. When my daughter was in bootcamp I did send a writing tablet and envelopes, but personal items need to be purchased there before PIR.

Yes they are....as long as their RDC approves it. I'm sure your daughter was just told to store it away.
I did not personally have to send my son anything...BUT I am a veteran mom active on all of the current PIR groups. We have seen plenty of moms send contacts and make up for pictures and PIR. Even LaLa Ribbon Queen (another regular veteran mom on the PIR groups) has stated that she sent items for pictures and PIR as her daughter requested them after she had permission from her trainers.
This is not the same as sending "goodies". -

Pictures are in Training Week Four.
Again...this Is not directed at you spring932, but in general..., ONLY send if your recruit requests the items. It is not a general across the board allowance. -
