My son leaves March 13th also out of FL

How are you handling your son leaving?

yes my son is also leaving for bootcamp on the same day. I am having a hard time. I know he will be safe. My husband is a chief in the Navy so he is allowed to go to the bootcamp side to see how my son is doing. It's hard because he is my youngest and last child leaving the house. I am afraid I will fall into a depression. My heart pounds when I think about him leaving. My oldest son is also in the Navy he is in Pensacola Florida. It was hard to see him go although he did not live with me due to collage. My youngest has been with me. I don't work due to a cervical fusion. I guess the best thing to do is keep busy. Im going to a Bible study and going to volenteer somewhere. I really don't have friends because I live in Navy houseing. The girls here are very young and they party and gosip alot so I stay away. I am 45 they are mostly in there 20s. Ok enough about me. Keep in touch I think if we keep in touch it will help.

Kim, you should click on MY PAGE tab on the menu bar above. It will take you to your personal page. There are 3 comments on your comment wall. Scroll down, you'll see the welcoming message I left you which contains a link to the Survival Guide.  You will find lots of useful information there.  Now click on Annette's icon (square grey shroud). On her page, you'll see that she has join 4 groups. Except for the GM group, you should join the other three too.  Good luck everyone.

I am just going day by day right now. I try not to think about it that much. He is my only child. He tried college so we have already went thru a separation once but he was only 1hour up the road. The first semester I had to go up on Wednesday's and the weekends so I'm not sure what's going to happen this time. I sit in my office at work and start crying for no reason. I have taken this week off and we are giving him a going away party this weekend. We have to have him to the recruiter on Monday so I will go back to work Tuesday and keep busy there. I live in a small community and don't have any friends here either. My cousin just tells me to think of it as. Justin going to 4-H camp. He is going as a gunners mate. How about your son? Definitely keep in touch though. I know I am going to need someone to talk to also.
My son leaves the 12th :(

Hey everyone - my son leaving on March 13th from Middle TN.  Plans to be an Airplane Mechanic.  I am excited for his new adventure.  His two sisters started college last fall and he has been working and waiting for his turn to branch out on his own future.  I am up and down emotionally - happy for him, but a little sad for me.  I work from home so the last few years I have been able to be very involved in their lives.  Will be odd to have him visit, instead of come home every night.  It really got me when I realized that if he goes career Navy like he plans, he may not ever live in our household again.  That hit hard - but then I see how excited he is about this new start and I can't help but be happy for him.  I can't wait to see what he does with this opportunity and how what he has learned from us will hopefully help him.

Hope we all can be strong for them when the day comes....I have a feeling I will be the first to tear up! :-)

Nice to meet you all!  from Kimstn

Nice to meet you also. Justin plans career also so I am right there with you

You'll meet other members with recruits who left for BC about the same time.  These are the members you'll become great friends with. There is a group of veteran moms/dads too who will help you get adjusted.

On your personal page. YES, you each have on. Check it out. Click on MY PAGE tab on the above menu bar. You'll find messages from other members, summary of the groups you belong to, the discussions you have posted in (like this one). You can add music to your personal page, change the appearance (warning don't use white font if your background is light).

Lastly, there is quite a bit of info in our Survival Guide (it's in a welcoming message on your page). Here is the link for your convenience.

My son also leaves for boot camp 3/13/2012 from Jackson, MS.  He will be AECF.  I already miss him.  It was a little easier when he left a year for college because I knew I could reach out and contact him.  This will be an adjustment, however I am so proud of him and excited  about his new adventure.  Any advice???

Ditto ... advice would be to get involved with the chats on here. There are a lot of "veterans" on there that help answer anything and are very supportive
