My boyfriend just got his orders for the USS Kentucky 737 in Bangor, WA at Naval Base Kitsap. He will be going there in April, and I will move there in May once I graduate from college. I will be working in either Seattle or Tacoma area, so we've decided to try to live in Bremerton. Does anyone have any recommendations about apartment complexes or about the Bangor/Bremerton area in general? We're both from Northern California/Bay Area originally, so it won't be too much of a hassle to move our belongings.

Thanks,

Mary

well i dont know how much help i could be being as I'm only 18 about to graduate high school still living with my mom and i live in the town right next to the army base and the edge of tacoma but i think if you post this question on this page http://www.navyformoms.com/group/washingtonoregon?xg_source=activity i think you might find answers alot faster :) hope it helps some

although I dont know much about that base and cant help you a ton. I just want to give you a piece of advice. I just left Everett, WA and the rain was absolutely depressing and made me hate the area... BUT there are TONS of things to do up there! The area is amazingly gorgeous and there are soooo many military things to do!! Look up militarymerits.com and it tells soooo many amazing things your sailor can get discounts for. The MWR on his base will have amazing activities that he can sign up for. there are so many things to go see and do! While it can be super depressing try not to let the rain get to you. I know I let it get to me at one point bc I was trying to save money while I wasnt working and wouldnt drive anywhere but to get him and to pick him up. It was horrible! But I started making friends and doing more stuff and it made it a lot better! After awhile I just learned to take a heavier jacket with me everywhere I went bc unlike some places if it starts raining there the temperature drops a lot! (growing up in Oklahoma when it started raining it stayed warm outside! lol)

Bangor is really nice my husband and I just left there and are up in Everett now! Bremerton is nice there are more apartments in Silverdale which is in between Bremerton and The bangor base. But Bremerton is huge and I might not have seen all of the apartments there since we lived in military quarters. I like WA its so green compared to Southern CA where we came from! it is very chilly and rains A LOT I liked it at first then it started to get on my nerves! But you'll do fine out here i wish you guys the best luck and dont be scared to message me we aren't that far with a ferry! :)

Thanks to all of you! Brianna, do you have any suggestions of some apartment complexes in Silverdale to look at? We've looked at the Santa Fe, the Madison at Wellington, and Madison at Ridgetop so far, we're just waiting on availability since my boyfriend won't be up there for another month or so.

I'm from California, (Northern)..but I am still going to miss those hot california summers, but i'll get used to having my rain boots always haha.

I know good things about the Madison at Wellington. And good things about Santa Fe Ridge. Good things about location, management, and cleanliness. :)

Sounds like you're definitely leaning towards the Silverdale area which is what I would suggest. I have family there and my fiancee is stationed in Bremerton now. Personally, I'd much rather live in Silverdale or Port Orchard than Silverdale. Just where I would feel safest. :)
