I'm thinking about moving out to Whidbey Island in August with my boyfriend of over a year. He recently received orders for Whidbey Island for two years. He's currently deployed abroad. I think it would be a great opportunity for our relationship, because we haven't had much time together, but I'm very nervous about being able to find a job and contribute monetarily to the relationship. Is is difficult to find a job in the area? Do you have any tips for places to look for a job? The last thing I want to do is move out there and not be able to contribute monetarily. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Search on the website of the Navybase there - look for job listings offered to civilians, try craigs list (oak harbor) and local online papers-want ads. Oak Harbor is the biggest town there & north of the island, on the mainland is Anacortes (big Marina, city department, water district, and Washington State Ferry Services there-might be some opportunity??) Whidbey island is full of wineries, farmland, boutiques, eateries, art stores and bed & breakfasts & resort type cabins--but job opportunities--I just don't know. The big stores and companies are all in Oak Harbor
You might get more response if you post your question on the Wa/Oregon Main discussion group - You're created a "side-discussion" here, and it might not be seen by all the others, especially those living up that way. Scroll up by the Title you created and click on: Back to Ore/Washington discussions and then click on it once again to get to where we most often check in....Good luck to you and your sailor.....
Hi Keisha and Storymom, thanks for replying and for your suggestions! Honestly, I'm looking for any job so that I can contribute to the household. Unfortunately, I'm not eligible for any Base jobs because I'm not a Navy dependent. I've been looking at classifieds, Craigslist, Monster, the base website, the City of Oak Harbor website, and the Chamber of Commerce website, and I haven't found that much. I was thinking I could try to look when we move in August, but that makes me nervous, based off of what I've seen. I thought it might be better to ask people in the community if they have any advice or leads. Also, thanks for the tip about posting in a more trafficked area.
