For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Anyone else have a loved one in Ship 9 Division 091? My son left 01/17/2012. He will be going to Pensacola for his A school.

I ordered them but don't have them yet. I also got the side with the helmet and names. I hope they are in today's mail.
I got my SRs "class" ring today. If anyone is thinking about this as a gift for A school or just to give, Dunham Manufacturing was great. They have all of the Navy rate logos, anchors, personalization and at a very reasonable price.

Only 10 days to go! I am beside myself with excitement. I am continuing to write letters but the last one I mail will probably be this Thursday. It seems to take 4 or 5 days for her to get my mail so that would make Tuesday the last day for her to get a letter from me (same day as the "I'm a Sailor" call?) and Wednesdays for some reason she doesn't get mail which would make Thursday a heavy mail day. She doesn't need that the night before PIR. I will just hand her that week's worth of mail when I see her Friday.
One thing I haven't told her is I have had my own personal "blue candle event" every night since she left. I missed one night because I was out of town and wouldn't be allowed to burn a candle. I then went to Michael's and purchased an electric candle. I am taking it with me so I don't miss that last night.
It would be cool if we all have a "blue candle event" for BS21. If your SR hasn't told you when it is, just light from this Friday through Tuesday nights. If you still haven't received the "I'm a Sailor" call after that, light it again Wednesday. That should cover it. If they have BS21 BEFORE that, then we are lighting for their last week. Sorry, but OPSEC rules prohibit us from talking about BS21 dates so if anyone knows for sure, please do NOT post it.

I think I will try to find me a blue candle tonight. I definitely need something to ease these nerves. I am extremely irratable today. I have seen some bad advice being given to some new moms, and everytime I try to put accurate information, a newbie goes on and contradicts what I have said. It's so frustrating, but I guess I just need to let them make their own mistakes.

I use white votives but put them in blue votive holders. It works well.

What a great idea. I will have to try that also. I am going to make my own shirt to wear to the great n meet. Can someone tell me about the phone call we should get when they are sailors. I have not read that anywhere. and SR did not give that information either. Thank for filling me in.

Some time after BS21, you will get a call from your SR saying, "I'm a Sailor!" That means they passed BS21 and earned their Navy ball cap (really their graduation ceremony - the PIR is for us).
From what I have read, some of them stay up and wait for a phone to be available to make the call ASAP. Others go straight to the rack and call later in the day or even the following day. Hard to know which your own SR will do. I understand it is a long, rough night and they are exhausted by the end of the capping ceremony.

Some also have watch. That is why we ask those that do get the call if they can to ask their Sailor if all in the Division passed and to please post that. It can help ease the mind a little...if the call does not happen.
Some are granted the use of computer time...they have to pay for it...and have posted on FB...so check there too!

NavySoccerMom - I saw your comments on BC moms...all of it was accurate and I will be going over there to "back you up"! I want to thank you for being concerned to do so and I hope you will continue...when you are ready. We are always looking for "veteran/seasoned" moms to help out.
I was going to send this privately but I think others may be feeling the same and may "need" it.
What you are feeling is common.
First, near the "end" BC our emotions start to "refrazzle" as things are "changing" again in a way.
Second - I felt exactly the same way when I first started posting on BC moms! I went running to diannep (one of my lovely mentors) and said, "I am NOT posting on there ANYMORE. I talk and talk until I am blue in the face!" (I am LAUGHING at myself as I write this!) LOL (DISCLAIMER - I am in NO way slamming our newbies... I LOVE 'Em!...but laughing at myself, K?")
It is frustrating...but that is how that particular group is going to run...lots of new people wanting advice and some giving it. There are not a lot of "seasoned" moms on there right now to "get your back". So anytime you want too...let me know and I got you covered!
In fact I did not post for awhile....but just the other day I realized how much more "comfortable I am with it"...just found my niche! You will too...but there IS a "sticking it out" phase!
Hang in there! You are right...all you can do is "advise" and then the ball is in their court!
